TT - the chances of you and I both making the same marathon start line are pretty slim, but you never know.
Jools - hope you go well, you've done a long way health wise in recent weeks.
OO - hope you go well too. Exeter could be a possible, firstly I need to shift the rest of the evostik still in my system which is upsetting all entry and exit points at the mo.
Oo, I do agree, everyone should get to Boston just to understand what it means there. It takes over a city like no other major. I suspect I'll go back again in a few years. Get chicago done in October then hopefully tokyo next March as priorities.
I've entered the abbots dash 5k the day before as well. People say it's a brilliant experience. 22000 on a shake out.
10m. At 160bpm. Trying my new AF3 and tracksmith half tights. Averaged 6.11mm for 161bpm. Ran first half at 6.15 average then second half 6.06. The wind was pretty mental. I session on a 2k loop and the second half is a gentle slope down. This is where I make my time up and recover however it was directly into a 20mph wind with stronger gusts so really affected momentum. I come off that out of the wind but running uphill so it doesn't quite even out.
Anyway 14m in total for my last run of substance.
I've entered Bristol 10k for 19th May which is a masters qualifier. It's just sold out this morning and checked and there's only 2 others registered in my AG. So, I simply need to run the qualifying time of 35.45 to get selected. Easier said than done given my pb is 36.00.
OO: I agree with TR about the number of races you had in your legs. Even for an experienced racer, asking your legs to find another superlative marathon so soon was almost certainly a step too far. I also agree with DT about racing shortly after a long haul flight (which will probably also have added to the dehydration issues).
could have been very nasty for the competitors - as it was just about ideal marathon running conditions.
NZD that's not a bad start to a run - sunshine and a rainbow
Very good progressive run and nicely topped out with some 8m/m pacing - and uphill! So that will have certainly registered as an anaerobic benefit.
No such sophistication on Garmin, I'm afraid, it started off its suggestions when I resumed using it as if I hadn't been away and I can't input "dodgy knee and big toe, go easy on me"!
It then gradually "realised" that i wasn't what I used to be and modified according to the latest data so we are now more or less in synch apart from its occasional desire to push me into anaerobic sessions which I am not currently capable of.
I was shocked, when I posted those 440 yd interval times a week or so ago, to realise what I was once capable of not too many years ago - what i wouldn't give to be running those times just now.
I am being lured out to the Hash again tonight - more presentations to do - looks like it may be a long one....
OO - I'd run easy to at least 1/2 way, then maybe 10m mp and a wd? Your legs are going to be shocked by the distance.........I felt for yoir mate Steve as i was leaning into the wind walking along the beach today..........London looked set for 20th but they must have moved it for Easter.........yes last time I ran London I ran it progressively, 1.28.0X and 1.26.3X fastest running was in the last 2k. Not sure I have that in the locker, but I'd like to hit 1/2 way in a similar time......if I can't push on then I shouldn't have gone any quicker anyway........I still have the Brighton memories of a struggle when my dad was in hospital and stopping at 1/2 way with CV, next yr its 3 weeks before London so I'll do it as y last long run and finish without the struggle.
TR - that's a great time on a lumpy course, and bodes really well for the Marathon. Hope the niggles have settled a bit and you're able to push on.
rjr - hell of a run at the 5k! (was is that Podium thing at Leicester, where something like the top 15 all broke 14 mins!!) Belting time though mate, well done! I hope the achilles settles down a bit and you can at least make a start on Mara training properly.
OO - well done at the Half! Sounds like a really nice family day out. Sensible call re Manchester too. You put your own criteria on how you count streaks etc, but if you're going solely as a training run then there's no reason why you can't continue your sub 3 steak for Marathons you've raced. Your streak, your criteria, your call. Sedbergh is lovely too. Be a nice break if you can make it.
TT - goodness me, not sure what to say! I really hope you can finally get to the bottom of all this and just get healthy again. If you do that then the running great times again will follow. Big hugs etc mate and fingers crossed for you xx
wardi - great that you didn't even feel the niggle on your last run. Who knew? You just had to run a Marathon to sort it Well done at the parkrun as well. Onwards and upwards hopefully!
jooligan - really pleased to hear you're over the worst of the COVID symptoms now, and you're back running again. Hopefully a strong block now before Newport.
joolska - glad you're feeling better!
SJ - I'd be going full beans at Wilmslow. Couple of miles before, and race it. If it goes well you'll get a huge boost psychologically. And if it doesn't make the call mid-race that it's a training run, back off and add miles at the end. You've done enough longish runs. Get stuck in lad!
at least that means 2 of us are running - worried it could be really low numbers. I managed to book with Whizz Air for £38 return - but they shifted the flights from Friday to Saturday which only leaves 4 hours before the expo closes on landing - so emailed the organisers and (how good is this) they said if you are running late we will wait an additional couple of hours till 8pm to ensure you get your number (take note London!!) - Sounds like they really want those who are coming to enjoy it.
