OOK! - I run for Portobello Running Club, with an altogether classier vest, although I've spent many years doing my training runs on and around Hunters Bog (which is the valley on Arthurs Seat in Edinburgh). I don't like the big city races either.
Colin - don't be put off by the description of the race. It starts on the beach at Beadnell Harbour, and goes South-East, basically along the coastline, but sometimes on the beach, sometimes on the coastal path, and for a couple of miles on minor roads through the villages. There are 800-1000 runners of all abilities, and unless you're expecting to do sub-90, you'll have plenty of company all the way round, and even then you'd be OK. No navigation is required, and certainly last year the combination of marshalls and supporters along the route made it very difficult to get off-route. I would really recommend the race.
As an aside, if you like races of this sort, you might want to consider the Seven Hills of Edinburgh race as well. It's on June 17th, and is around 14 miles (like the NCR), but with 2,200ft of climbing. This requires a bit more knowledge of the route, but it's a fun race.
Dri Fit - Nike brand name for a fabric that allows the body the breathe effectively unlike cotton. You don't overheat and perspiration evaporates very quickly so you stay drier for longer. If you try it you won't wear a cotton T shirt for running again; no more jogger's nipple. Even better are the winter jackets which don't cause condensation so you saty warm and dry.
Most manufactuers do something similar under different names - Adidas is "cool dry", a generic name is technical or wicking
Phil, I did the chevy followed by the coastal two years ago and tore my calf muscle and had to drop out after about 5 miles. Its either or this year but I haven't decided which yet. The chevy won last year.
cheers minni, think i am aimimg to get round the chevy in no great time ie before the finish, and enjoy the coastal at a pleasant pace. im doing 30 - 35 miles a week with a 15 - 18 miler road and about 6-8 miles round thrunton as part of the week.

I did the Blaydon last night- the humidity was overpowering. If it had been the NCR, I wouldn't have finished.Lost the will to live at 3 miles, radiated heat off the tarnac
Isn't Blaydon super hilly. I'm sure the University cycling club used to refer to one of the hills there as "breakfast hill", because they often saw their breakfast again on the way up!
Nah-Blaydon is a dead flat and fast blast. Unfortunately it runs west to east into the setting sun; it is usually warm but last Sat night was exceptionally warm and the forecast predicted 92% humidity.
Hello everyone! This sounds like such a great race, I have already registered...can't wait! However, I have never been to the Northumberland coast...any idea how the wind may be during the race?Being on the coast I guess some wind will be present, but is it always cold, or just cool enough to help you not to overheat? See you all there! Ciao!
Wind moderate forecast unknown scenery brilliant bring camera and packed lunch and just enjoy, should be fab though drawback is I have not done it before so am also wary just watch out for Lindisfarne causeway if you take the wrong turning!
Daria The race is traditionally hot with a stiff breeze off the sea - shades of Lawrence of Arabia. As you run north/south you get sun burned down the left hand side so lots of factor 50.
Keep quite about the Northumberalnd Coast or I'll have to kill you (Britain's best kept secret)

Cheers,

Two races around Keilder Forest - One is on roads/tracks (Road 10k) the other is more demanding forest trails etc ("Wild Race")

I'm banking on sea fret for the NCR!

Either way the scenery is great but like OOK! says...don't tell everyone!
Thank you for the tips. See you all in a couple of weeks.
