Hello all Am seriously considering this. Did my first ever race today (RFL) and loved it!!! I'm now hooked on running - been running about 4 months and usually train on treadmill at home. This is the first time I'd run outdoors!! It was raining, muddy and I was dreading it but I did better than expected and came home to a lovely shower on an enormous high - feeling very pleased with myself!
I did this race last year but it was sooooo hot I ended up being barely able to run. I've done very little running since but I might enter again this year and get training for it with a view to running all of it this year. I might have to skip your delicious breakie V-rap as I run better on empty. :-)
It's definitely as good a race for beginners as the race for life, but probaly has more serious runners in it too. The winning times are world class. There is a full range of abilities though.
The Birmingham course is not quite as good as it used to be on Broad Street. Broad Street was a really flat run wheras this one is quite hilly. There is one hill near the beginning which is pretty sharp but short, and a long but less steep one about half way round.
I would go as far as to say most of the field walk!!! I'm not at all fast (did it in about 27/28 mins last year) but as I was coming round to the finish I was passing literally hundreds and hundreds of people on the other side of the road who hadn't yet completed the first mile. Many were still finishing after an hour. This means - if you do want to run, even if you are quite slow, try to get nearish to the front at the start line, or you will be tripping over those who are just out for a stroll!
A good day out - the goody bag is great and the warm up and warm down are great fun!
I'm entered for this one. Not run outside since my last Race for Life in 2003!! Not keen on the hills and have no idea of the course. Do we get info on it with the 'pack' we get? I registered through Cancer Research UK.
Ended that a bit abruptly!! Meant to go on... I registered late and didn't realise it was in the city centre!! I'm a bit dim like that. Last time I did it in Birmingham it was at Cannon Hill park.
I will be running this as my second ever race this year ( 1st was RFL)
I was wondering about hills so I'm glad I chanced upon this thread while lurking. amfy, thanks for the advice about getting near the front if you want to run. I was quite surprised in the race for life how many people that started out on the "running" start point were walking after about 25 yards !
I am running for I CAN and this is all reminding me that I really must get some sponsors....
Hope no offence caused to birmingham snail! Of course it is good to walk too!
I was looking out for you last year because I had noted some people's numbers off the thread here. At one point I thought I saw you and ran up shouting "Birmingham Snail!" at someone who turned out to be one number away from being you!!
She looked quite offended and I was really emabarassed! I mean...how can you explain that?!!!!!
Noticed now that I've got my stuff through that they've gone back to the old course.
Loads better - dead flat, out and back, and with loads of spectators lining the route and adding to the atmosphere. It's also great at the end if it's sunny as everyone ends up in the fountain!
Hi my number is 840 I will look out for you girls.Last time I ran it two years ago I fell over about 3 mins from the finish and lots of kind ladies stopped and picked me up lets hope I look where I am going this time
I will be wearing a bright orange "I CAN" t shirt,( and a black save the whale baseball cap if it is sunny) and my number is 1248. I will write the above numbers on a wristband or something and say Hi if I see any of you.

I've had my number - I'm 689 - and I'll be walking.
It looks as though it's the flat Broad Street course again according to the plan in the information pack.
