Nice running all and some new(er) faces image

Not been around much this week- very busy with my examining work.

Running- did a track session on Tuesday 8 x 600m.  Then yesterday it was a 5 mile run, 22 mile bike ride and 1 mile swim. Which was knackering. Rest today, then I've got a 5 mile XC club race tomorrow morning

Yesterday 7.4miles in under 53mins. Then out for gin and cocktails. All of a sudden it was 2am. Sore head today.

Gin and cocktails sounds good JT. I was out with the old man last night too and had a pornstar martini- just the one as I was racing this morning image And a few glasses of wine.. image

Cycled down to the race and back this morning to try to get used to this combining cycle / swim /run thing.. then it was our 5 mile race, which was lovely in Epping Forest. Got a huge thorn that went all the way through the sole of my shoe into my foot, right after we'd started. So had to stop to pull that out. Finished in around 43 minutes I think... was hoping for sub 42 but there are three of these races through the summer, so I can work on this for the July / August ones.

Swiss army knife job, Nessie? image  Pretty handy time notwithstanding.

A year since my running wheels dropped off with calf problems - veally annoying...

Anyhoo, 650 miles so far, just over 150 days of not-a-streak and....injury free.

An eventide 7.1 miles of fields, path and sand dunes, made special by running towards an intense setting sun, red as a gigantic blood orange as it left Crosby beach for another day.

Probably the furthest I've covered in a year.

It's great that you're fit and back enjoying your daily runs swittle. And glad Ness plucked the thorn out of her shoe. Can't help thinking of Androcles and the Lion.

It was hot today. On/offroad mix just about 15miles in under 1hr53. Sped up too much for the last couple (don't know why) and the last half mile became a slog.

That's kind of you, JT.  image  A speedy workout for you on a v warm day, I imagine.

hello everybody! I run a 10k race on Saturday afternoon but I kinda botched it image

as for today, I run around a town on a high land in the morning! Dogs played havoc with everybody's ears! image

Hot out. 8.7miles in 1hr06 or so. I like being out in the full heat but it's knackering. I have brown legs.

Been a lovely week. Monday I aimed to do a 10k at a relaxed pace (5:55 to 6:00), ended up doing 13k at 5:50 because I misjudged the route with regard to where I would finish. Felt great.

Today's run was intended to be a 'speed' run, aiming for 7k at something like 5:35-5:40/km, assumed that my legs would still feel the 13k but my recovery seems to be amazing as my legs felt extremely fresh after that 1 day off.

Got 7.26km at 5:29 and the first time I've ever had 7km (and a bit!) in less than 40 minutes. Despite the rather extreme heat my legs felt great and I never felt breathless. One of the loveliest runs I have had.

Friday I'm planning for an endurance run, limiting myself to 20km but gonna see how I feel after I pass my previous longest of 15km, not gonna overdo it

Loving the 3 runs a week routine I've got myself into (Would be 4 but I want to be fresh for football on Sundays image), but dreading what I'll do to keep it up when I start work in August (50 hours per week :/).

Great running Q. To be honest I still can't figure out kms.

Off and on road so pace chopped and changed a bit. 12.2miles in 1hr30. Took it gingerly through a field of cows and calfs so as not to spook them. Sweat puddles on my shorts which looked like I'd wet myself. I hadn't.

A disturbing moment passing a parked car near a busy junction. The driver door was open, he had his phone out and appeared to be, well, entertaining himself through his tracky bottoms. I could be wrong, and God knows I hope I am.

Thank youimage  I've always used KMs for some reason but also do convert any longer runs to miles just to see how much it is in the 'bigger' units. Always impressed with runners who do half marathon distances in 1h30, maybe one day I'll get there myself

Q - Ha, I'm still trying to crack two hours. Hopefully I'll get there by the end of the year.

Been a bit slack posting here - I did parkrun Saturday. Ran out of gas in the last mile so missed my PB but was first in my age group for the first time. Very slow and lacklustre four miles on Tuesday. Better four miles today. Threw some strides in to the last mile to rev things up a bit. (I'm running a 10K on Saturday, hence the lack of a long run this week).

Hermes - how did you botch it?

JT - yikes. I live near Tooting Common and when I first moved to the area there were a lot of prostitutes on my road and on the common itself, in the wooded part. Let's just say that they were not at the high end of the market. One time I saw one of them on her knees in front of a guy and had to avert my gaze quickly.

    Hello everybody!

Did a 15k (~9,5mile) easy chat-run in the track yesterday.

    Swittle, keep it up!

Cal, a friend of mine who has been in London for a couple of weeks told me about parkruns and I kinda envy Londoners runners eversince! imageimageimage. About my botched tenner, while towards the end of the 6th km I came across an incline so I goes to myself, "come on Panos, let's beat the hell out of it" but then I felt that I could not be bothered really... Kind of felt run down, so I just paced down and just finished the race in style. I am rather fed up of running "aggressively" - shall I put it this way, so I am taking a few weeks off intensive sessions and races come July!

    Hi MLRers!

I've been stoopidly busy with work stuff this week, so not been on here. Some great running though it seems... some pukka scenic runs for swittle and JT. Although trust JT to lower the tone with tales of apparently pissing himself and of public self pleasure image One of my regular running routes in Epping Forest is also a popular cottaging location, so I too have seen some sights over the years... am pretty much immune to it now!

Nice park run time for Cal, and Hermes, sounds like a decent plan.. Q- also cannot "get" kms! but sounds good!

Me- finding it hard to fit it all in, with trying to also cycle / swim in prep for this tri, not to mention work / family... Did an easy run Monday around 5-6 miles. Then 6 am speed session on Tuesday- 12 reps of 260m. Cycle to work and back, and swim in the evening. That was a knackering day.  Wednesday was another easy 5-6 miles.  Rest on Thursday and I'm about to go out soon to run to meet a friend for lunch, then run home- around 8 miles round trip I estimate.

Hi all, glad to see everyone enjoying their runs, kind of wish I had the kind of entertainment whilst running some of you do, my highlight today was being incredibly scared by a pheasant that suddenly dived out of a field just a few feet ahead of me. I had my headphones in and didn't hear it so my heartrate went up just a bit image

That being said the run went well, 11.8 miles (or 19km) in 1:51:17, at an easy-ish pace, not too bad considering it's another little record of mine (longest distance ever run), plus I conquered the same nasty steep 0.3 miles incline three times, so that was nice.

Incredibly frustrating that runkeeper chose not to record distance or pace after 5.90km, luckily it recorded the time and I know how much one big lap is so that allowed me to work it out. I had an apple watch with me as well but despite not touching it between starting the exercise and stopping at the end it only recorded a minute of running image On a side note if anyone ever considers it, don't buy a Samsung Galaxy S6. Terrible, terrible phone.

2 weeks ago I thought it was way too soon but now I'm seriously thinking of entering the South Downs half marathon next Saturday. After all if I can do 19km (and I could have kept going) with a 213 metres total climb, then what's a few more steep hills...?

  • Options

    Q, I think you could easily handle a half-marathon...

Nessie, this is the call of the wilde!!!! Evvvveryone has to let go when they have to go!

As for myself, no scary unexpected encounters or emergencies requiring my running behind bushes image! Yesterday evening I did 12k (some 7,4 / 7,5 miles) in 53'30 street running, so  yesterday night I enjoyed my dinner on spicy pork chops sauted in red wine (it came with baby tomatoes and whole grain breadsticks) along with the remainer of the bottle of red wine without remorses. Earlier today I run 4k easy at the track and then did plenty of stretching and various exercises for the upper body

Appreciate the vote of confidence, after that run yesterday I actually feel fine today aside from some tiredness in the legs, so on the basis of that I've just entered the south downs hm, really looking forward to getting around the route image

13.85miles in 1hr44. Didn't wet myself, and just to reiterate I didn't wet myself last time either. I've never wet myself on a run. I've shat myself a bit, but that's another story... There's a segment that I took in today that always comes up slowish. It's not difficult and I don't feel slower, so no idea why the pace always drops. It's a Bermuda Triangle segment.

Well done for staying continent, JT. Fortunately for me I haven't been caught short as an adult but as a child it happened all the time, and in some pretty illustrious places, too. I've peed down the walls of Dubrovnik and taken a dump in the great gateway of Rhodes.

I had a pretty disastrous 10K yesterday. Osterley Park is a lovely setting and organisation was fantastic, but it was pretty humid and that got to me. After an on-target first mile, I started to get slower and slower and eventually finished up running slower than half marathon pace. My time was three minutes slower than the PB I set a couple of weeks ago. Can't say I'm not disappointed, but I've been sluggish all week.

Managed a four mile recovery run this morning. Took it easy and just enjoyed it.

    Thanks, Hermes ^

All these reports have their own flavour: targets met or missed; terrain mastered or negotiated, miles or kilometres run, logged and recorded - and they top up my reservoir of persistence: Just Another Day is my mantra.image

Through no fault of my own, I *may* soon have more time for running.  Cash strapped college, restructuring, posts 'disestablished' .... you get the picture..... image

  • Options
    Cal JonesCal Jones ✭✭✭

Yeah, my post got disestablished. I figured I'd wait until after my marathon to start looking again. But I'm enjoying not working too much. image

Best approach, Cal.  My main issue: not ready to be pastured out yet.

  • Options

Swittle, it seems to me that hard times for the most are quite common all over the planet image...

Runningwise now, Q it was piece of cake for me to figure out that you can easily handle a half marathon, since you run 12miles rather effortlessly image.

Cal, unfortunately, every one of us have have a bad day now and then... you will have your chance to a great race, I am sure...

As for me, I did a slow 23k (14+ mile) long run today at a paved road on a mountain close to my place. I have read that some of you have come across various animals while running, yet, I would believe that my today's encounter was most amazing since I came across a wild boar! It run loose from a nearby farm, I reckon. Ugly mf! Nasty thick hair on its nape and  reaaally reaaally graceless... It seemed to be rather young, since it couldn't weight more than 100 pounds and also it did not have these teeth / horns, watchucallums at the sides of its snout.

    Oh dear Swittle image

The sector's in such a mess right now.  We've had a very supportive principal for the last 7 years, and that has made work so much nicer. He's leaving though at the end of the academic year, so I see redundancies, restructuring, mergers and academisation on the horizon.  I do hope you are able to see a solution to it...

Me- a 4 mile progression run yesterday and rest today.

Worked on my threshold yesterday. So I did a 5k tempo run (12,5 laps) in 19'33
