In the last few miles of a long run I always like to hum the music the BBC play on their London Marathon coverage ('The Trap' by Ron Goodwin if anyone is interested). Always makes the last few miles pass more easily.
U2 - Discotheque; Robbie Williams - let me entertain you (sad but true!) and The Music - Breakin' are all doing it for me at the moment, especially on interval days. Anyone tried listening to audio books? Pondering it for the hefty runs in the run up to FLM.
I've found these all help to put a spring in my stride:
Eminem - Lose Yourself Eminem - Shake That Queen - Another One Bites The Dust ELO - Mr Blue Sky James Brown - Sex Machine Survivor - Eye of the Tiger Muse - Hysteria Muse - Butterflies and Hurricanes Coldplay - Clocks Paul Weller - Changing Man
Madonna's new album is great might be more for the girlies though. The last 2 tracks are at a slower tempo but having said that I use them for my abs work after I've run.
Marathon / Long Distance Runner - Promoe Long Train Running (Extended version)- Doobie Brothers One More Time (radio) - Daft Punk
These are my top three, promoe to start but play 'long train running' when your legs start to go as the lyrics include 'keep on moving for' about 2 mins! Well needed at 14 mile mark.
There are a few crackers that have kept me going this year in the freaking cold weather marathon training:
Boulevard of broken dreams - Green Day Wake me up when september ends - Green Day Lose yourself - Eminem Without me - Eminem Sunday morning - Maroon 5 Never forget - Take That (Sorry!!) Girlfriend - *Nsync & Nelly
Jonny Leeds - I too have She Sells Sanctuary on my metaphorical IPod. A riff to crack your ribs if ever there was one!
However, I would also recommend, 'I Run for Life' by Melissa Etheridge.
I first heard this on the radio as I was driving (coincidentally) along part of the FLM course. Because the DJ said what it was about, and what it was written for - it made me blub in the car!
