In 1985 I bought a Ron Hill Goretex running suit (around £100). I have used it in all sorts of conditions every winter since. It is still going strong although it is starting to leak now. The trousers are still almost as new and they stay in my walking rucksack and I think they will last another 10 years
22 years of good use. I am thinking of getting a new top for Xmas though
Any other long-lasting purchases out there

Polar RS800 - awesome
Asics Kayanos and now majorly impressed with the nike pro tops.
'Correct' running shoes
Got to be Brooks Adrenaline running shoes, especially when I picked two pairs up for the price of one at Sweat shop Harrods. Thank you Runners World
My first, now long-deceased, pair of running shoes. If they hadn't been so good I wouldn't still be running.
In terms of pence-per-wear, it has to be the Adidas Climalite tights I bought in 2002. One pair disintegrated last year, but the other is still intact.
The Brooks Nightlife gilet I bought last winter is running it close - about five outings a week for 20 weeks last winter, and looks like doing the same for several more years.
My "couldn't-run-without-it-now" purchase is my Garmin 205.
My 2XU long compression leggings. Put 'em on straight after a long run, sleep in 'em overnight, seems to reduce DOMS and speed up recovery **

Seriously good at helping me win medals.
Garmin 305 without a shadow of a doubt.
Next up would be the adidas flashing LED light armbands, great for looking like a running Xmas tree!

Best recent purchase: Garmin 305 for £140.
HH Lifa tops
DS Trainer X's
Salomon Race Raid 20 Rucksack
I never liked the HH Lifa, always a bit rough on my sensitive nipples
I do remember the Troll gear - dark green seemed to be a popular colour
An adidas shoe bag which was bought with vouchers won as a schools athletics prize in about 1983.
Still going strong !
My Timex Ironman 8 lap watch has also been a great investment, since getting it in 1999.
I don't need anything more in a sports watch.
bike )
I'm in lurve!
Asics Kayanos - got me running and confident again after injury
SwitchEasy RunAway AnyShoe Adapter - £3 and made all my trainers Nike+ compatible
Salomon XA Raid Tights - 1st pair of tights - amazing!
never run without it.
Skins compression leggings are amazing. I did a 13k charity run and my legs didn't feel half as bad as they should have done. You can get these at www.evolutionsports.co.uk
Chris
Evans cycle headband fleece. For winter running
Mizuno Breathe Thermo top. F*ck me, cooling Caribbean breeze on da beach all in a T shirt in midwinter.
OMM 10L rucksak
Speedo cheapo shite goggles.
My berghaus Nitro backpack so I can run to and from work - its a revelation.
Other good things - my Aldi gilet for a fiver. Buffs or Hedys.
Hurricane 8s - sorted my ITBS
Custom orthotics - as above
Concurve thermo tights - use them for everything
Polar S625X - use it on runs and on all my bikes. Genius.
UnderArmour cold wear compression top - again, great on the bike and for running
Yep, I think orthotics have been a godsend to me.
I would not be running now without them.
My Garmin Forerunner 110, what an ace, and SIMPLE, piece of kit. I bet it packs up now I've said that! I know folk will say I should just run for the pure enjoyment of it, but I find it serves as an excellent motivational tool. Also, as I'm useless at pacing it lets me know what the crack is....!
