I'm still using the old 1's and I love them. Not seen a review for the latest 1's. I will be moving on to them once I can't get hold of any of the 12's in 11!
General consensus from what i've heard and read is that if you run a sub 2:45 marathon, racers are the way to go. Anything above and it's advisable to go for a bit more cushioning. Not tried ds trainers, but by the look of them and the statistics, these would be a good alternative to a racing shoe. Still light but extra cushioning for the extra mileage.
Just to throw a spanner in the works, wore DS Trainers for London last year and they tore my feet apart!! Wore them in properly before the race but had to hobble the last few miles and lost a good time as a result.
Just shows that different shoes suit different people? I'm just under 10 stone and was aiming for 2.35 but there is no way I would wear a racing flat for the marathon!!
Per the advise above I got myself some Vaporflys and loved them so much for the 1/2 marathon I tested them out in that I've bought some more for my speed work. Really confortable and really fast.
Now you've got me wondering whether I should test them out on my last long run this weekend pre FLM... what do you think?
Sensible - I haven't done a stand alone mara in my DS trainers but have trained up to 18m in my DS trainer and Fasttwitch endurance and had no issues at all. Would happly use the DS trainer in a mara. Maybe the fasttwitch were the reason for my feet starting to burn up in the IM marathon but it was 32deg C and it was a long day. As with everything each to their own.
C Hook, Me been me I would go for it and try them out, what's the worst that can happen? You don't get on with them and you go back to your old faithfuls. Or you love them and never look back.
Tele, I trued the vaporflys for a 21 mile run on Friday and they felt perfect - no blisters and as confortable as the normal cushioned shoes I'd wear.
I'm now seriously tempted to use vaporflys exclusively for all of my road work - I know they don't last too long but they're a lot cheaper than most everyday shoes so it would probably even out
Are these the ones you have here? Struggling to see them in my size
Sound like you are singing their praises. I'm looking for racers for shorter distances and faster work. Would you recommend them for that? I also like the look of these. Any other recommendations? I'm having a look through this list here.
I've always used the Nike Mayfly for the really fast stuff like 10k and under (on the same page at Start Fitness). I've never got on with Asics as a rule so haven't tried the hyperspeeds.
