Northumberland there are a few 10k races coming up localy. One in Sheffield called Theos 10k 20th April in graves park http://theos10k.com/ and also the Rother Valley 10k but not sure when it is. The Helens trust golden gate 10 k stands out for me, in Chatsworth so should be scenic.
Really chuffed with the money we raised for Lupus UK and we'll get some column inches for them - which was my primary goal...
Really chuffed for my two friends Steve (who ran 53, he's local and a pretty good runner) and Karl (he ran 56.30 and it was his first ever 10km) and then there was me.....
I have a PB of 55 mins for a 10km run (ok that was on the flat) but I felt like crap from the hooter to the line - I hate hills and I set off too fast trying to keep up with Karl to "nurse him round". I didn't warm up correctly, I was stood standing waiting for the loo when I should have been warming up - so that probably explains why my right calf feels like someones jabbed a knife in it.
I felt more knackered doing this than I did after the Sheffield Half last year - and I managed around the 60 minute mark (which I what I set out to achieve)...but I've had it put into perspective by my friends who supported me......
Last year I was fighting fit, having lost almost 10 stone in weight.....this year I'm coming back after some bad injuries, I weigh 2 stone + more than what I was at the same time last year.....and this run was up hills....and I dont like em...the hill that I said "wasn't all that bad"....almost ground me to a halt and it took a lot of soul searching and refusal to quit....just to continue after the first lap.
I did so - and I'm damn proud of myself - so much so....that I'm doing the lincoln 10km in a couple of weeks time all being well.
Sorry for the ramble but I wanted to give you my "up's" and "down's" of the day - see you at Rother Valley foo
sorry to hear you had such a bad day mick for you to nearly quit( the mick of last year came past me puffing and panting driping wet very hot day ) must have been awful but to put things in prospective as you said you havent done any running becouse of injuries so just to finish was a great achevement well done and keep up the good work for your charity
DM - come join us on the Sheff half thread (if you haven't already)
Results are online now. Chip time 57.22 which I'm pleased with!
Dynamick I think I passed you at one point - did you have a white Lupus vest on? Also did someone with long hair turn round and shout you? I wasn't sure so didn't say hello! You must've then passed me again to beat me by 2 minutes though!!
Aitch- hiya i was trying to spot you but after the restraining order you put up against me i thought i better not approach you. Well done on your PB, on my 6th Kronenberg and not slowing now!!!!DM well done on entering Sheffield its a fun run Dynamick well done as well, you should quite rightly feel proud of yourself, i will also see you at Rother Valley
It was defo you I passed thinking about it.... I was running behind you and a guy with long hair further in front turned round and shouted Mick and then I passed you, THEN realised who you must've been but didn't turn round to come say hello - sorry! I read your post above that you ran 55, but that was your PB. Well done on the 60 min - that's what you were aiming for after all!
I've knocked 7 mins off my time since September last year!
LOL KPO!! I was looking out for you too! I wouldn't have ignored you - I'm too nice!
I can't get the photos when following the West Bar website link, is anyone else having similar problems or got any suggestions as to what I am doing wrong?!

Aitch - I had a white lupus t-shirt on - the guy who pipped you was Karl, my mate who was doing his first 10km - he had long hair and a lupus vest on.
I'm reflecting on it now and I'm a bit happier - chip time 1hr 09 secs

You make me laugh
I can't...
Enjoyed this. It's great to be 'racing' again though, in truth, as it was my longest run since November I was happy just to do the distance.
Good job, really, cos the time wasn't one of my best, shall we say
And I dodged the photographer too
Bah the pesky photographer got me and my mate on the premise that his friend had Lupus......
It might be true - but I failed to dodge the photographer - you guys win!
