Normally at this time of day I'd be typing up the details of my long run. However today I have only just made it out of my pit (and would have still been there now if the woman next door hadn't been making a right old racket hacking at the ivy).
I feel really groggy and like my head is full of cotton wool that has been soaked in chloroform. Not sure that running is the best plan for today, but will see how I feel in an hour or so. It might just be that I'm groggy from too much sleep.
Time to stop deluding myself. Sore throat was not a food allergy, it was probably a mild infection. Grotty feeling on Thursday was not due to having one glass of wine on wednesday night. Groggy feeling now is not from too much sleep. I am ill. I give in.
Agree with Tracy - you've trained hard and raced so you're in tip-top form - this enforced rest won't harm you on the 5th. Take care - hope you feel better for the rest.
I know it's hard not running when you feel you should but you need to knock this on the head. Your in excellent form and the focus now is the GNR start line. Make the most of the opportunity to take it easier but make sure you look after yourself, plenty of Vit C and hot drinks cuddled up in the duvet watching TV. Sounds like bliss.
Hi CC2 - hope you're feeling a little better today....
I think I am going to join you on the shorts front - although the running shorts are comfortable, I was much much comfortable in lycra shorts yesterday - could you let me know where you got your vest matching ones from please??
Have a look at my new video, posted yesterday - it'll make you sob and work will have to take pity on you and send you home to bed! (you'll need it with sound though....)
In my rush, I think I've ordered the wrong size - didn't notice there was a choice! Are they fairly generously sized or do I need to order another pair??
Don't have internet at work or I might have tried that (I log on at lunch on my phone).
I'd say the shorts are normally sized. I ordered a 10 and they fit fine.
I wasn't sure if I should try a run or not today, but the monsoon outside my window has settled that one for me. Running in the pouring rain when I'm already ill does not sound like a good plan. I shall do some weights instead.
Mmm, probably not. As it happens I hate egg custard though, and I'm all out of sticky buns. Will have to make do with a vegetable finger sarnie.
It's been weeks since I last had time to fit a weights workout into my schedule. I rather enjoyed it, in a masochistic kind of way. I'm sure I'm going to ache tomorrow.
Assuming I'm fit to run tomorrow night should I still stick to the session as per the schedule? It looks like the toughest session yet. I'm worried about stressing my immune system too much. Am I just being a wimp?
Pooly food is food you eat when you're pooly (porley, ie, ill). It must be starchy and sweet. If you can't eat crap food when you're ill when can you?? I am sure any nutritionist worth his salt would agree. Pareto principle - 80/20 rule!!
Yes, you are being a wimp, but best to be a vaguely healthy wimp than a very sick martyr.
Set out with the intention of doing 2 x 2K (if you feel up to it), and only add a third, if you feel you are running well enough to justify a final one, and you don't feel at your limits. Forget the fourth one
WU - 1.15 miles 10.52 pace 9.26 (including stretching) - my breathing was laboured within the first 30 seconds.
Lap 1 - 1.24 miles 8.23.80 pace 6.49 HR 179 - absolute agony. I was literally gasping for breath and it felt like my lungs were going to explode.
Recovery 90 seconds - spent doubled over coughing and trying to get the mucus out of my nose and throat.
Lap 2 - 1.24 miles 8.41.23 pace 6.59 HR 179 - really only half an effort. By the top of the hill my average pace was only 7.14. I tried to pick it up down the back straight but never got below 6.59 pace. By the time I got to my start point (about 1 mile) I was ready to drop. Form was non-existant and I was wheezing so badly I just wanted to stop. I don't know how I hung on until 2k at the same pace.
Recovery 90 seconds - as above.
There was no way in the world I was going to attempt that again tonight so I used the last 2k rep (programmed in to my garmin) as the recovery lap - 1.24 miles 11.45, pace 9.28.
I dragged myself round Tesco coughing and hacking, which caused people to move away. Excellent - makes shopping easier! I invested in a curry for tea. That's supposed to get rid of colds right?
When I got in the bath I was horrified to see that my chest and shoulders are covered in spots. The same kind that you get on your face. Maybe it's just the illness seeping out through my pores. Or am I deluding myself again?
I can't go to the doctor's for a cold. I'll be branded a time waster and banned from going back! Besides, my doctor is seriously anti running and will only delight in telling me that i'm overtraining and that i should pull out of the race. She had me in tears when i went to see her with my back. Told me i should forget running and take up swimming!

It's not a bit better, it's a lot better. I make it sub 42 10K pace and the course is quite hard.
remember nice and easy on the first half tomorrow.
It's only 6.45 pace isn't it? My 10k PB was 6.40s and the GYR was 6.39s (but looong!). Newstead Abbey Dash was 6.33s and also hilly.
Yes, I meant a lot better than last year (40 seconds) which has to be your major comparison point.
Times are always really relatively slow on the course. Most of the first mile is uphill.
It's sub 6:45 pace

Time for more Benylin and bed.

No run today.
Right decision Catherine,

Tracy, the shorts are from start fitness and the colour is varsity blue. They're still awfully short but not indecent and not flappy!
Thanks

Pooly food? -
wise decision, catherine. Not sure the nutritionists would necessarily agree with the dietary adjustments, KGL, when you can't run and burn calories!
Mmm, probably not. As it happens I hate egg custard though, and I'm all out of sticky buns. Will have to make do with a vegetable finger sarnie.

Well, that was awful.

Sorry to hear, things aren't improving. Think you may need a visit to the doctors for anti biotics etc.
You clearly need a few easy days but well done on doing sub 7s in that condition.
Rest up for a few days, drink lots of water and take the odd Night nurse etc
Oh Catherine,
Take it easy, you are so fit and have done more than enough for the big day. Recovery needs to be your priority now.
A trip to the doctors sounds a good idea, anti-biotics could soon have this cleared up.
