I've only just posted my entry today but I would think I'd get in. Started running a couple of years ago after 18 years of Sat and Sun football had taken their toll. Now its just running thats taking its toll.
I'll let you know my number once I get it to say hello in the 2nd.
Hello everyone, may I join in? I have entered along with my running buddie (who's quicker than me), it's my first 10k so am a bit apprehensive, I expect to take about 80mins so may well be last.........I'll make you all look good! I started running in feb, the usual 30 secs at a time then an oxygen mask but have slowly got better. Have done a couple of 5ks , race for life, little havens ,crown to crown (blimey) and am doing langdon 5 tomorrow.
Does the Billericay race head towards Stock, down the big hill, turn left and round by the ford? Then back up Mountnessing road? I tried to work it out from the map but lost my bearings! Was born in Billericay so I thought I should return to my home ground for my first longer race!
Will do, I joined the Pheonix Striders who help organise it and we run there on tues mornings so we have been round the route................don't know if that helps tho because I know about the 3 big hills..............
I've done it just the once, i know you go up a hill at the start but can't remember where it heads. There is a ford as well i vaguely remember. But it was about 4 years ago
Julie - You can come and join me and my friend at the back. It is her first 10, and she is coming back from injury. My running club is doing that 5 miler tomorrow. I will be resting my legs for Beachy.
Argh! I wish I was doing this, but I really can't!
I reckon the course is what a 10k should be - a couple of hills to keep it interesting, but by no means tough, nice rural section on the outskirts of Billericay, the ford (go over the bridge not through the water!).
The first hill comes after about half a mile if I remember correctly and last for about half a mile. It's the tougher of the two, but still pretty easy and comes near the start so is completely manageable. When you get to the top of that and have run along the flat for a bit you do turn left towards Stock and down that nice hill, but don't worry you go left before the hill up into Stock and out into the country with some more bits of flat and some downhill. Then left at Buttsbury Church and on to the ford, over that and then along mountnessing road back into Billericay. Just before and as you're coming back into Billericay there's a bit of a hill - ok, not really hill, but fairly long shallow incline that isn't bad but also isn't welcome after 8k of running. I remember hurting at this point even though as I said it's not much of a hill but it does go up a bit!
I was an early bird and got no 50, so keen or totally mad not sure which! I shall write you all down and say hello if I see you, I think some of my fellow club members will be there too, Pheonix Striders.
Thank you for the detailed course analysis Shelf side, it's pretty much what I had in my head, I did double check before I entered that it didn't go up Noak hill road or those 2 really steep ones from the South Green side!
Tracey thank you for the offer I'll look out for you, when is Beachy? I did the Langdon 5 yesterday in 49.56 (my time, ok the official time was 50.05 but I was busting to do under 50 and it took me 9 secs to get to the start line) so I was totally thrilled with that.
Golly, Tracey G 2 races so close? How far is Beachy Head? ( I mean the race not the place!)
Well done for your sub 1 hour Icclesuez, I have no idea how long it will take me but at least I'm guaranteed a PB ............................................unless I get stretchered off of course!

Where was your first 10k?
Not run it before but it does go past the ford - or so it says on the race instructions.

It's a great course and a great race.

I'm in - 262.
Looking forward to it, but treating it more as a training run than going for a PB I think.
Oh. Wondered what the red cross meant.

Oh my, you are one of those runners who I aspire to be one day....................
I'm still trying to pluck up the courage to enter the brentwood half marathon in March next year. Thought I'd see how I get on in Billericay first!
