Capricorn, have a good time, that's one of the places on my list-to-visit.
I'm having a good spell in running as well. Did a long run on Thursday (7-8 miles) in steady/easy pace (I kept speeding up as I was exploring unknown paths but regularly took down the pace, didn't walk) and it felt good. Easy run (3-4 miles) on Saturday followed by some strength exercises, and a 'clear my head after a frustrating weekend driving my father all over Angus and Aberdeenshire while listening to his opinions and prejudices on everything' run yesterday evening: 50 minutes, starting easy, stretches, followed by fast, easy, cross-forest, easy, steady, easy.
The past couple of runs I seem to get into a good rhythm easily, it feels strong. And I'm happy to find that I have regained the pattern of going for a run when I feel tired and fed up to make me feel better.
Really frustrated as the only advice my doctor could give about my constant tiredness and swollen glands was to run less which isn't that constructive.
Am going to hold back on the mileage for a while though but can't give up running as it's the only thing keeping me sane.
I can appreciate that he is worried about shin splints and tenderness over a longer period of time but I'm not convinced that he's that much of an expert at running/sports injuries. However, this being the cr*ppest borough in London, i can't get referred to anyone else for a consult.
will drag out the health insurance to see what they cover for sports medicine - probably nothing as they seem to cover very little else.
SM - hope you find someone else to figure out what's wrong with you! The swollen glands and tiredness sound serious, did the doctor tell you to come back if running less doesn't help?
EP - Well Done on the swim. I'm getting myself sorted with swimming lessons if I can get fitted in to learn to swim better - eek.
Did last nights cycle, swim and weights. Managed to avoid the treadmills too. The cycle was hard I really pushed and felt good afterwards. I forgot my goggles for swimming and so I got a bit of a sore neck and went a bit slower.
Tonights run is still on as long as it doesn't chuck it down. I fit does I think I'll try and do 1hrs swim instead.
doc wasn't that helpful overall - I go to him because he's been good with other things but then again, he completely misdiagnosed my boyfriend's knee, saying 'ligaments' and wouldn't hear of anything to the contrary (he actually needed to have his anterior cruciate ligament reconstructed, which was what happened)
I've decided to pare back and start at the beginning of the training again after a week off. I don't know what else to do but I'm b*ggered if I'm going to sit about and get unhealthy (which is the only way that you get to see a specialist in Hackney)
Will work more on core strength which was one of the purposes of this 'Get to fitness year' as hopefully we will be thinking about having a family in the next few years and the way that my back is at the moment, I'd spend 6 months in bed!! :-)
Will keep you informed on the likelihood of me doing Abingdon - I'm still planning it but only if I'm really ready and able for it.
SM resting and starting again is a good plan, hope everything goes okay and you can make Abingdon.
Did a fairly quick 10k with my group last night in preperation for the Aberdeen 10k on Sunday. Out again this morning and did 5 miles steady with a few faster bits.
SM - hope things get sorted out for you. I'm sure having a rest is a good start - frustrating though that may be.
Silly I know, but I'm starting to worry now about keeping healthy (let alone injury-free)for the next 5 months till Abingdon - just don't need a bad cold/flu to set the training back a few weeks. The kids easily pick up colds at school and then it just goes round and round the 4 of us. I've started popping multivitamins now, can't do much more really. Did an easy slow 7/8km last night, and it'll be a fast 5km tonight.
Did 1 mile warmup followed by 7.5k fast. Just over a minute faster than a month ago, mainly in the first half. Pacing was a lot better, and overall less effort and less pain. (which makes me wonder if it could have been faster with a bit more effort
Well done 'roos on your run, its great to hear you are improving. Congratulate yourself on your improved time and forget about beating yourself up about the amount of effort needed to go faster.
Happy running for the next week everyone. We're leaving after work for a weeks holiday in Scotland. Taking the running things of course - it's always refreshing running in a totally new place. Then the Sheffield 1/2 on 1st June. Will report back on my return .....
Just came back from Edinburg (bought more running shoes) and it looked like everybody is having their holiday in Scotland - the train Northwards was packed and late. CC, good luck with the 1/2 (and please don't get stuck on top of a hill like your pic :-)
Hi there, just completed the Aberdeen 10k this morning, got under 60 mins (59.29) feeling fairly pleased. Hot day and fairly humid and the sea breeze was welcome for part of the course along the prom.
Well done all & hope the weekend running went well
I did a hard 10k and a brilliant 5.5miler.
Rest tonight and then after riding tomorrow night I might either do a gym session or a run. Total rest for me this weekend as I'm away (might take my running gear in case I need to get away)
I'm off work next week so I'll be getting in a few longer runs I hope.
EP, glad to hear that! This thread has been rather quiet lately, I think more people are about to get really started sometime in June. What races have you planned for the next couple of months?
Have just posted a note on Health forum - have a very sore right knee - it seemed to pull on the left side yesterday afternoon when I was walking. Seeing Doc on Monday morning - so will rest it until then. Hurts a lot when I go up and down stairs.
Fairly hot today here in Aberdeen. Did longest run this am for a few weeks (11 miles). Very slow due to heat and the hills. Keep getting a stitch when coming down hills if they were fairly steep, must work out why.
Thinking of starting my marathon program after my next 10k next weekend.
Back again after a stunning week in Scotland - Argyll. Did 3 approx 8 km runs (along the loch where our cottage was) during the week. And did walks every day of at least 5 kms. Then the Sheffield 1/2 yesterday ... not so well, was soooooooo hot. Managed 2:06, had thought I'd go under 2 hrs, but not to be. Not enough water stations and for the first time ever I got a huge blister under my big toe and chaffed from my shorts, no excuses though ! Still a good event, well supported and the start and finish in the really spectacular Don Valley Stadium was great.

Looking forward to my 10k in 3 weeks time!

Wishing Celtic victory tonight in Seville.
I did 30-40mins last night with some drills. My feet felt like lead and my lungs hurt but I made it out and quite enjoyed it.
Cycling tonight (assuming it doesn't rain) hoping for about 2 hours
SM - hope things get sorted out for you. I'm sure having a rest is a good start - frustrating though that may be.

Did an easy slow 7/8km last night, and it'll be a fast 5km tonight.
Today completed a steady 5mile run.
The FLM marathon and rest and whatever else seems to have resulted in me running faster so I am well chuffed.
Watch this space.

Rest day today for me.
I too was resting yesterday but tonight the gym awaits
Capricorn good luck with your 1/2 in Sheffield.

Very fed up Slow Bird X
Be over in a week.
The Mr. and I are BOTH going to do Abingdon! And he says he's going to follow a training schedule this time. Yippee.
By all.
