had my first OW tri today and my bike ride was puncture-tastic and had to DNF image saved me running up a supposedly very steep hill though image and v.pleased with my swim. norwich roads are clearly crap!
  • Options
Sorry to hear about the punctures WW, that's rubbish image YAY for your swim though!
  • Options
Shame WW, But I had th same problem at my first Tri and DNF'd.. And then look what happened !!
  • Options
Sorry about the punctures WW.  If I have more than one on Sunday I'm certainly buggered for the cut off.  Actually one puncture would probably do that, so...  >touches wood<  image

It was after that that I found out about track pumps and squeezing the tyre with your thumb not being enough... Since then (touch wood) only had a couple of punctures in a couple of years
  • Options
Yes I agree a well pumped tyre is usually a happier one.  >touch wood< I've never punctured on the road yet and have new tyres for Sunday, which were trialled in Bala and all seemed well.

i'm sure all will be fine nam - arent european roads better?

i'm glad i investigated my tubes when i got home (bucket of water trick) because I thought I was going mad and it was just that I couldnt inflate tube #2 and 3 sufficiently and had gone in a bad mood with my bike. we are tentative friends again now...

Three punctures on different roads in two weeks.  Tyres were well pumped up for numbers 2 and 3, given that I had put new inner tubes in only a couple of days before in both cases.  Maybe I was just unlucky.

Been investigating tents for camping.  What other stuff do I need?   How does this usually work?  Can I rely on someone else to have a camping stove for coffee and porridge making in the morning?  I've not camped in my adult life and I know that I will forget to buy something.

I've also been looking at bike porn, but I think September might be too soon to buy and get used to a new bike.  Might stick to me old one for a bit longer.

i did my first tri in october last year having bought my bike in august (and went on holiday for two weeks after!) image not that i am encouraging you to look at the bike porn...

are all the punctures on the same wheel? - If so its probably some sharp edged metal in the rim or a problem with the rim tape or some flint or thorn stuck in the tyre

There is never a wrong time to look at BIke Porn image

Bikes are like shoes and handbags you can never have to many.... Patsy from Abfab.

JP, different wheels and different bikes, so not the same cause.  Just bad luck.  Or maybe I've upset a hedgehog.

The reason why I think it will take me a while to get used to a new bike is because my current one is a cheap standard bike.  My new one with have proper pedals and drop handlebars, amongst other things.  Both will take some getting used to.

I picked up my new bike 9 days before The Big Woody in 2007.....
  • Options
Yep if it's the right bike for you it won't take long to get use to it. Unless it's the clippy-unclippy pedal dilemas. I didn't go for drop bars as having been a Mountain Biker for so many years that was going to near the darkside for me and I'm not anal about if it's a 'real' road bike or not as I seem to pass plenty of people riding them anyway image

Not looked into this thread for a while, took me an age to read back, I can see im going to have to try and keep on top of this one.

     Sprocket - Hellrunner....me.......NEVER!

Bon Jovi singalong whilst camping .......im there for sure, I went the gig at Milton Keynes Bowl 3 years ago.....awesome!

Still not entered but will asap, ive even been training this time, lol

Front Crawl practice is going well and Mr V has persuaded me to go OW swimming on Thursday night at Boundary park and for some odd reason has said he will buy me a wetsuit for christmas........I hope its a scuba diving one and not a tri one but I think I may be in for a shock image

Running and cyclling training was susoended fro a few weeks due to Injury and Mr V's IM in Germany but am starting again this week.

Camping is superb and even though we are only 40 mins away in Warrington we will be part of the pirate encampment, singing bon jovi songs.

Facilities - in May we used the Sainsburys up the road but when it was dark we just did what was necessary...........no bushes to hide behind tho.

I cant wait and I always said I would never do a triathlon.........this will be my 4th and the 3rd time on this course

Awww go on Mrs V ya know ya wanna image  I'm actully thinking I might do Sodbury instead as its a wee bit closer for us and I can head off for the day rather than dragging everyone back up to Chester again so soon after NW.

Glad you'll be in for the Jovi sing along!  I went to MK but in 1996 or 7 (can't quite remember) they played with Thunder etc and I got totally crushed and ended up in an ambulance with full blues and twos to hospital.  Once I could breath again I pursuaded them to take me back to the concert so I didn't miss all of Bon jovi, They did aswell!!!  Went back about 7 years ago, took the biggest friend I could persuade to look after me (she's a paramedic as well so doubly covered image)  Happy days image

Did you enjoy IM?  It was so weird watching the live feed knowing you were right there, I've never been so on edge as waiting for Viking to come over the line sub 15!!  Amazing stuff, you must be on cloud nine aswell as Viking!  My inlaws think I'm nuts as I sat screaming at the computer image

    *quakes in awe*

Hello again everyone, by the way. Been on jolly hols for 2w, and actually did some swimming - and some OW swimming at that, too! Quite proud of myself as was getting a bit worried about OW swimming in general (for the future) but found it quite OK.

    Hope everyone's OK?
