OK - Given that I haven't managed to run my home Marathon since 2005, I think I am safe in starting the thread, and finally putting paid to the curse.
So, 24 hours after the finishing gantry is taken down, and Dublin looks back on a great 30th edition of the Marathon, the thoughts start to switch to Monday October 25th 2010 and the next Dublin Marathon.
This is the place to post about the run, your plans, your thoughts, who is in, where we go for drinks, anyone know a pub near the finish? HAHAHAHAHA..... Anyone thinking of heading our way?
Comments
You go to Kennedy's post race and then don't speak to anyone for fear of looking like a pillock or a stalker...
And then quietly slip out again.
Everyone knows that!
Fantastic race in a wonderful city supported by the kindest, most down to earth people you'll ever meet. If you're lurking on here thinking about it - just book it.
And I'll (not) see you in Kennedy's afterwards....
363 days now - OK, I'm going to risk it - I'm up for running it next year. It can't hurt as much as my quads do even now, 48 hours afterwards. And no, I wasn't running, just doing hundreds of squats giving out water - Bet you never knew that you had to train to hand out water
Who else is an early committer ?
See what us marshalls and stewards do to get you around - Really, I am going to have to train one way or another, and I think the running is easier than a year of squats with heavy metal thingy's (See, i do a lot of weight trainng, I know all the terms!).
Barry, you are on the "Maybe's" list
It was only really this year that I truly appreciated the job marshalls do (and I told them so too)
I walked through the finish line at about 7pm as they were packing the last of the stuff up and we thanked those that were there for their efforts. They looked at us like we were a bit mad!
I will volunteer to marshall an event soon. I want to give something back now.
But we do appreciate you guys!
LB - I wasn't fishing for compliments, more joking about how it isn't necessarily an easy option. As someone who has run far more than my fair share of races over the years, and no doubt taking for granted that marshalls, water gvers, medal givers, etc., are always there, it's been great these last two years working the marathon and appreciating what the volunteers do over the weekend, and no doubt before and after as well.
So, next year I will look to run, and thank everyone as I run around. Geez I'll be tired saying thanks too
I know you weren't fishing!
I was in the mood to give a compliment, that's all!
See? They should have left this peace process to us!
*links arms*
((((((((( Group Hugs))))))))
LOL @ LB & Liam.
Did Dublin in 4 hrs 51 and will be hoping to break 4hrs next year!
362 days and counting - Well done Mantra, that will be a tremendous improvement, we will watch your progress here, keep us all posted.
Wonder how many of the Dublin Alumni of 2009 will be back for 2010, once they get themselves away from the couch they have all settled on for a few days of well earned rest
*must.....resist......the........craic...........*
LB - Resistance is Futile -
or paraphrasing anothe iconic line -
You'll Be Back!
I will obey - I will obey - I will obey..........
Your wish is my command - I will run 42.195 kilometres in October 2010 in Dublin............
My dearly beloved ran it in 2004 & thinks it will be the ideal step up for me from half marathons - methinks it's just a cunning plan for a return visit to the many bars!!!
Not worried about time - as long as I finish in daylight!
The course is long though isn't it?
Just did Dublin, my first marathon, loved it. Other have a lot to live up to.
I have to do it again. Is to early to sign up for next year? Could be the kiss of death signing up to early.
Weave? I weaved for half a mile did I??? Damn that vitamin G!
Morning all.
Just harping back to the question of the length of the course, i meant to add a while ago that my Garmin measured the course to be 26.4m. The issue of not taking the shortest route possible and/or weaving makes a lot of sense as to why i didn't run 26.2 miles.
Just to throw a small spanner in the works, after 2 miles my Garmin read 2.2 miles and the extra 0.2 stayed the same for the remainder of the race.
So it seems as though i managed to put in an extra 0.2 miles in the first 2 miles then run the shortest possible route for the remainder of the race. Bizarre!
I must have had an early weave and then sobered up!!
AB
Morning! I'm glad to see the new thread has started - not that I'm superstitious or anything!! *ducks*
I'll once again try and get to Dublin for the race next year - last ran it in 2006, I trained for an IM in 2007, was too busy in 2008 and had a nightmare of injury and sickness this year. (oh and LB that year a certain MrHappy got us all to post pictures of ourselves so that when we got to Kennedys wemostly knew what everyone looked like - that was of course before Facebook!!)
So subscribing to the thread!
Hi guys!
Have just noticed that registration has just opened for Dublin 2010 - do I press that button & go for it?! I suppose that by committing this early it gives me motivation (& the fact that 70 euros is an awful lot of money to waste!)
