This wil be my first marathon, so haven't a clue what to expect and am currently lurching between being quite excited by the prospect of running this distance for the first time and thinking what on earth have I let myself in for! I ran the South Cheshire 20 in 2 hours 37 min, so would a target of around 3 hours 30min seem reasonable?
I don't want to tempt fate and put a prediction. I ran the Rhayader 20 in 2h10m and thoroughly enjoyed it - hoping to run Chester a bit bitter than Rhayader (after a bit more training) and to really enjoy it, although I am nervous re the flat, out and back course (I'm used to the Welsh hills!).
I'll go with how I feel - whatever will be, will be time wise! I'll start thinking more about the race once I've seen my beloved Blackpool FC in the Play off final on Saturday!!
Oh I told my other half about it last night... as predicted he wasn't too amused but it made me 100 times more excited actually telling somebody about it - keeping it a secret is killing me!!!
TUTU Much - my husband wasn't best pleased when I told him I wanted to do Chester (5wks after previous marathon) but hey ho - I needed the driver, support crew etc. That get used to it. I've promised I will take him out for dinner on Monday evening after Chester !!!! Bribery works everytime.
Mick & Phil - I hope we could run together - you are a real inspiration.
Subbuterob - fingers crossed we can hit the sub-4
i am really looking forward to this one!
Did a ten miler last night - ended up stopping 5 times - flies in eye!!??!! what was that about ???? Hope the weather cools down abit. But it usually rains on a Bank Holiday!!!
Well, 12x200m reps done and dusted and have to say, didn't feel that great on them either, and legs a little stiff today which is even worse... but got to keep the faith that this taper is going to work... blimey, never thought I'd taper for a race properly...
Tutu ... not in a club but am in Leeds. For some reason I remember your "thumbs up" avatar photo from a previous thread, probably the Kirkstall valley trail thread from 2008 as it was my very first race.
Thought i might as well add myself to the list, going for a very optimistic time but would be happy with sub 2.45 and wouldn't be unhappy to finish with a GFA time.
Hope final training is treating everybody well.

I am bringing a friend (Mike Doyle) to the race then cycling to points around the course to give support. Mike has run 61 marathons and is running Edinburgh on Sunday before lining up at Chester - can anyone beat 61 marathons ??

Cool. Getting excited now, but this feels like a fast group on here!
Dr Dan: sounds like we should say hello on the day. I'm really not sure how it's going to go as my 1st one too but hope 3.30 (or should I say 3.29:59!) is achievable. Might be good to have a go at running/pacing together given we're going for similar times.
Anything I can do to not go out too fast but equally stick in there for the last 6 miles would be brilliant.
I think it hurts no matter what, but hoping the long slow runs and taper will do their thing!
no seriously Mick is a Running legend - to me anyway , hope to have a hello with you again Mick, hope it goes better than Stratford, its certainly nearnly pancake flat, a couple of very slightdown up as the path goes under a bridge, and if it turns near the Hawarden Bridge station at the far end (in Wales !) happy training tapering folks- a nice 10miler along the prom/ cycle path Prestayn - Rhyl Return tonight warm !
Mick - your 100+ marathons (and your pb) are impressive!! Mike Doyle who will be running at Chester is a diehard Liverpool FC supporter from Southport - not a midlands scrutineer with the same name.
I'm considering jumping on board and running this but I just found out that it's full! Is anybody aware of a spare race entry I could buy.....maybe somebody has an injury or just hasn't made the training? Thanks if you have any info you could inbox me at dannye103@hotmail.com

if it's him, i did'nt know what he'd done, but if he's still knocking them out then damned good luck to him
can anyone beat that -
solo years ago 67 marathons pb 2:52, some 23 years ago
recent years in returning back to running - 39 FM's pushing Phiilip in his wheelchair with a pb of 4:03
but there are many peeps on more - and as Mike Doyle have proudly worked hard for it
good luck to all of them - my full respect
