PP it was junk, but to be honest I don't really care for goody bags; as most are full of adverts. The medal and t-shirt were good, and plenty of drinks were available so that's fine by me. Wouldn't have minded some chocolate though.
I finished my first Marathon yesterday at Brighton in 5.33 hours I was pleased with the Time as the heat was tough ,been sent home from work as I look exhausted which I am so just lounging on my couch and wondering should I enter for next year
I so enjoyed the support that we got and my husband is so proud of me but what to do I would love to beat my time so do I enter or do I say been there done that got the t-shirt oh decisions decisions
Wow you Guys were Amazing all off you, I was so gutted to have been on the side lines but I did manage to take over 1500 photos so really hoping I caught some of you guys although I know with so many runners that might have been a tad difficult as I'm bound to have missed some be great if I captured you all though.
It might take me a little while to get the photos up but as soon as I do I'll let you know, at the moment I'm uploading them etc etc
Haven't investigated the goody bag fully yet - but the bar was gone within a minute and the blister plaster within an hour. Will wear the T-shirt with pride!
As well as the official helpers, thanks also to the guy in Hove with his garden hosepipe hosing us hot runners down.
Alfie!! I can't believe that!! I found photos and kept the links, then thought I dreamt it as I couldn't find a post from you so didn't know wher eI got it from!!! You're easy to find.. here was one link
Tracy my car said it was 23.5'c when I left Brighton at 4 o/c. It's normally pretty accurate at giving in shade temperatures. In the sun at midday, hotter
Someone mentioned just short of 8000. 78xx I remember without reading back.
If anyone finds the complete results table, please post the link. Thanks.
Race was v. well organised and crowds/marshals/water station people were brilliant but it all went pear-shaped for me. Had to walk from 19.5 miles onwards as I had nothing left. Last mile and a half were the worst, really thought I was going to be sick and/or pass out and back was agony. Shuffled over the line in 5:5x.xx, don't actually know exactly what time but I know it was under 6 hours. Massive PW but I'm most disappointed about not being able to tough it out.
I managed to spot and say hello to TracyB and The Green Fairy, hope you all finished OK. Soup Dragon overtook me at around 23-24 miles but by the time I recognised your name you'd sped off into the distance, you were looking good!
Anyway going to read back all your stories now to try and cheer myself up.
I was dressed as Superman in full costume in that heat, excellent support from everyone and a great event I shall being doing in next year but no fancy dress. Thanks to everyone I could not of got through the last six miles without you x
does anyone know how Noddy got on carrying his car??
I saw him at around Mile 3.5 so he must have set off quite quickly but lugging that car around would have played havoc with his shoulders, arms and hands. I never saw him again.....
and respect to the Fireman carrying a mock injured person and wearing full kit - that looked effing hard graft - anyone know how they got on??
Well done Superman!!!! I did see Noddy later on about the 18 mile mark I reckon. Alfie was literally dripping with sweat when I took it off, thankfulloy he is machine washable and out of the line ready for next week!!!
Just a quick thank you and well done to all of the runners and walkers who joined in with the Clif Bar Pace Leaders yesterday! We brought over a group of 5 leaders from our U.S. team, and secured 6 leaders from the U.K., and all performed brilliantly, especially given the warm conditions!
Special thanks for our U.K. leaders: Mark Shepherd (3:10), Nick Gracie (3:20), Ian Berry (3:30), David Hegarty (4:00), Sandra Bowers (4:15), and our alternate Racheal Elliott, and our U.S. leaders: George Roulett (3:40), Star Blackford (4:30), Robin Roulett (5:00) and Sharon McNary (5:30).
These were among the warmest temperatures we have faced in the States in our 8+ years of pacing, and we were amazed by the strength of the Brighton field! And the spectators - in a word - SPLENDID!
Actually, it's probably not going to work as a link, but it worked when I pasted it into my browser address bar! I only ordered this morning and I got a confirmation from the company.
Some of your stories are absolutely brilliant!!
Will comment later, but just to say Anne very relieved that you are feeling ok.
Nobody told me the night's sleep after the marathon was going to be hellishly painful. Still lots of muscle pain, and the foot has a sharp twinge if my weight is in the wrong place.
Really didn't want to make use of my £5 deposit yesterday, but I've entered fully today. I'll let you know when I become excited about this.
Does anyone know if spongebob square pants finished, he was being followed by the car very late in the afternoon poor thing.
Tracy B - I finished in 7768th position and there were 6 other finishers after me which makes 7774 finishes in total. I'm afraid I don't know how many started.
I am now referring to the 4 hours, 23 minutes and 49 seconds that I spent yesterday with you all as a 'Malibu' moment.
(Bear with this metaphor)
The first time I drank Malibu it was at a party when I was 18 years old - a GREAT party. I'd spent many hours prior to the party preparing myself by talking to others about who was going and about what fun I was going to have. At the party itself I had a really great time - I must have sunk about 17 shots of Malibu rum in the first few hours, being careful to pace myself. I continued drinking though - in fact I sunk a further 9 shots - each one tasted worse than the last but I was keen to stay with the party. A couple of times I felt like going home, even changing my drink, but that would have been plain stupidity - after all, this was a GREAT party. Having stopped drinking at 26 shots I was awful - out of it - escorted to my bed where I stayed until morning.
So - the morning after the party before, and with a great deal of hindsight I stated the following, like many with a Malibu hangover...
'I'm NEVER drinking alcohol again'.
Of course, 22 years on I still drink alcohol. I have NEVER ingested a single shot of Malibu since that party though!
Thank you all for such wonderful advice and thoughts over the last few months - it's been an absolute joy. As I have already stated on the newly started Brighton Marathon 2012 thread, I reached new 'lows' in those last 9 miles yesterday - but the first 17 were bloomin brilliant!
Dips, I was right in front of Noddy in the blue pen when I started.
DRCR, so what your saying is you'll never run a marathon again, but will continue running. As I said on the 2012 thread, give it few days and you'll be signing up for next year
Darris - please pass on my thanks to Robin (for the 1st 12 miles) and most importantly Sharon for the last 6 miles - although we did nearly lose her to a speed bump at the end of the powerstation loop! She really was fab!
I think that would be my advice to those doing their first marathon. If you are not aiming for a time but this you can make the slowest pacer time, and are worried about getting round - try and stay with a pacer, they are so motivational!
Thanks Tim! Just so I can boast ... yeh and it was 23.5 degrees! and that was a 4pm!!!
Anne, Well done!! Just wondered how many finishers there were really as I was about 12th from the back last year.. so this year I was 400 from the last!! How cool is that?? You done fab!! My heart went out to you as I struggled so much last year (more than this year as you know), and to get back up and continue 3hrs later.. is just bloody amazing!!
Comments
I just wish they'd not make finisher t-shirts in white though

Just a quick note to say MY WORST MARATHON EVER!

not quite sure if that's important or not...
Well done Superman!!!!

Darris Blackford (3:50 Pace Leader)
Well done to everyone that ran yesterday, I can't admire you enough for carrying on in that heat, it was bad enough spectating!
We saw Noddy finishing in just over 5 hours, which considering he looked like he was struggling at the 4 mile mark was good going!

Apparently about 8000 started.
23.5 degrees - Boy that was hot!!
Noddy started next to me in the blue pen he was running almost next to me for about 2 miles..so probably a bit too fast.
Alfie was running next to me on the prom around 24/25 miles..the kids loved him!
(Bear with this metaphor)

FB, firemen were up the powerstation as I was on my way out.. somewhere around there.
Prosperity, can't believe the suit! I saw the Gorilla but was hard to tell if he was smiling! Respect for carrying that dog suit round!
giantelf, took me a few seconds to get that ....
Little Nemo!! Well done!! At least you got there this year.. and finished it
I think i've seen a photo of Noddy on the finishing stretch.
I saw the firemen with dummies finish just as i was leaving, possible abour 4.30pm
I'm almost starting to crack with regards to 2012, however than i get up off the sofa for another stroll around & quickly change my mind!
The Argus have lots of photos and there seemed to be a few on the official marathon photos website too
Darris - please pass on my thanks to Robin (for the 1st 12 miles) and most importantly Sharon for the last 6 miles - although we did nearly lose her to a speed bump at the end of the powerstation loop! She really was fab!
