Tri-specific cycling shoes tend to be quite e bit dearer than standard ones. Personally, as this is your first tri I wouldn't even DREAM about doing stuff like leaving shoes clipped in on the bike in T1 for foot entry on the go, but it's up to you.
I've never gone down the "leaving shoes clipped in" route just simply because my balance and co-ordination isn't upto it.
If it were me I'd just get used to cycling in clipped in shoes and practice unclipping against a wall, on a turbo. It's not as easy as the pro's make it look.
I have a pair of size 43 Shimano TR02 carbon shoes if anyone wants to use tri shoes for the first time and I can bring them to bala. they are well used but for a try out they might work for someone.
PS Rosey, how's Mrs IR doing with the bike training?
hey you, she is doing OK, not as much as either of us would have liked for our own reasons lol !! but she is getting more determined. after seeing that article in the tri world mag yesterday I got a text to say one day she would be able to go on a ride with me at the right speed x which I thought was lovely.
I have left my turbo fully set up while I am away again this weekend for her to use and watch BGT while she is pedalling away lol !
I've been trying clipping out of the current pair of shoes I've got. I've tried using them in the past, but concentrated on getting some miles in with just trainers. I'm going to try them tomorrow, but ensuring I unclip before I get to any junctions. Think there's only about 6 in the 12 mile loop I do, so shouldn't be too much of an issue.
Tomorrow is day 1 of NorthWest triathlon training.

aww... Yes I know the feeling, I can't wait to head out with Calfie at a "decent" pace.
They seem a bit clumsy. For one, they have laces aswell as the velcro strap, no heel tad and the tongue is that short and flexible, it gets pushed into the shoe and is hard to even get a hold of. They'll be okay for training, but not for a quick transition.
Bizarre. The only cycling shoes with laces I've ever seen are mountain bike ones which essentially look like a normal walking shoe but have recessed MTB cleats for these types of pedals.
ANY conceivable distance available from fun distance (200m/11.5k/2.5k), sprint (500m/23k/5k), Oly (1500m/46k/10k) and Half IM (as well as Half IM relay). Something for everybody.
When I try to load the map on the web site it crash's my pc where is trentham? Presently free that weekend if it's within a surtain distance would be up for it and cycle over for some outlaw training if not next year. If you have a post code for the start of the race would be spot on.
Managed to complete the Cockermouth tri yesterday in awful conditions in 1:16:52 on a very hilly course. Pleased with that, If I get a solid summer in and don't kill myself at the Outlaw I'll hopefully go a couple of minutes quicker at Nantwich in September.

Yes they're standard road shoe cleats. If you already have cycling shoes why did you want new ones?

like these... often used for touring etc.
They're actually these. I only bought them because they were cheap.

Good for you.
We should be there, but I have to wait until I get paid until I can enter as a bit skint thanks to holipops.
This has been my home. And I want to get straight back on!
