I'll be up for this again.. it was excellent fun and a great motivator to start the year.. and now that I'm racking up some big miles it'll look good on a league table...
There was talk of doing to be a summer one, but nothing happened.
From what I read on the US site during and after the event, there was really bad snow over there and quite a bit of apathy from some members who didn't take it as seriously as the UK did. Some strong words were posted and they rallied well but KK was accused of bringing in "High" mileage runners and they were well trounced.
It was amazing to see how quickly they fell apart when the war of words started within their camp
Didn't pick up on this until too late last year but it looked like a bit of fun
Last year's thread for anybody interested but, as I understood it, it was basically an idea to motivate people to get their mileage up during January.
Again - correct me if I have this wrong. As far as I could see it was simply a case of logging your mileage on a shared database which then added your miles to those of your compatriots and worked out a 'national average' before compared the output from two camps - RWUK and RWUSA. Oh - and once you had logged your miles - with the added benefit of being able to join in a string of good-natured (mostly) transatlantic banter.
As I said, looked like fun - I'll keep an eye out for this year.
Flat Footed. That's a tough one. First as I have family in the US, second as I grew up in the UK. Thirdly, because I grew up in the UK I always root for the underdog... Oh dear. Now I am really confused.
Mikasa, guilty as charged. That is a Finnish flag.
Can we have a "European team" as well? But how would that work?
I'm not hijacking the thread, this will be a one off.
Brittejen puolella tietenkin, jos olet taalla kerran kasvanut. Ootko takas Suomessa talla hetkella? Itse asun Walesissa vaikka muutto takas Englannnin puolelle ensi vuonna.
That's a good idea "Europian team" includes everyone except the Brits or Brits that live in other parts of Europe.
Mikasa, a fellow Finn! For a small nation we do get everywhere. I'll PM you in the language of our forefathers so as not to offend anyone on the thread.
Kittenkat. I know there are a few active forumites who live outside the UK. How many do you think a team would need? How much harder would it be if there was a third team?
I'm in for the US again KK. Hopefully we'll get more than just the L&Oers to join up.
Thought I'd pop in here and check out how many folks are signing up over here.
I had a great time last year, the competition helped propel me into a good running year. Even got a BQ this fall, not that that did me any good, shut out on registration day.
I doubt this winter will be as bad as last years for you folks. You sure seemed to get your share of snow and it sounded like you weren't used to getting it.
Ours here in the Am.Southwest is supposed to be warm and dry, unfortunately. There's already talk about forest fire danger. Better for running I guess.

Certainly got my Mara training off to a flying start and felt good given them across the pond a pasting too.
Hope it is on again!!
ooo good. Lucking hopeful then. Come on roll up, roll up!
Thanks KK.

Sounds like a great plan.
So what about us forumites who are not in the UK or the US? Are we dropped on the sidelines as mere observers?

And yes from me for the challenge!
