Murph1 - thanks, I think 3:02-3:05 pace with progressive build up after the half (if at all possible) sounds like a plan I can live with.

Only real thing I'm not that happy with will be the cups. In every race I've run I can never drink from cups without stopping. The trouble with that is that after km30 (mile 20 or so) it's really hard to stop then start again!!

for those using the app, the competitor database has now been updated to this years entrants.

so, after 30 months and several hundred miles, that's it.......no more training runs, just the big one left to do.  should be a doddle, shouldn't it???????

Ian, top work on the list.

As for tickets to Ajax, last 2 years have just got them outside at one of the ticket booths on matchday. Total bummer to hear it's sold out for Sat night, shoulda guessed as AZ are top of the league, the past 2 years Ajax have played teams near the bottom, so not so much demand for briefs. May just tap up at the ground and see if we can get any.

Yeah, sadly inevitable for Scotland, wasn't really bothered about Tues night, the damage was all done in the previous games. Nobody can touch Spain at the moment though, they're an incredible side.

LS - That is absolutely superb what you're doing for your mate, that beats any sub 3 any day of the week. The bloke is a lucky man to have a true friend in you there chief.

Night folks, another day of doing zero work and thinking of the race awaits tomorrow!

    Morning folks!

Got my dreaded review in less than 9 minutes, could do without the stress to be honest, hate these things. Wish me luck, I might not be in a job when I come back here later on haha (that was a nervous laugh by the way...)!

  • Options

Good luck with that Neil, at least you have something else to think about rather than niggles and bugs.

Quick question for any locals, how long should I allow for a taxi on Sunday evening from Leidersplein to the airport, I presume there is a taxi rank nearby.

  • Options

Ian - I am only doing the half here I did Berlin 3 weeks ago. I would love to be able to do 2 in a short space of time with a sub 4 to boot!! image

The weather here today is excellent for running and it looks to be staying the same fior Sunday. It was 10 degrees at 8 this morning on the way into work so expect around the same for the start and rising to around 14 by 1 ish! The wind is forecast as around 9 to 11kph, so it will be in your face down the Amstel stretch but not as strong as it has been!

Be careful when you run over the bridge at the turn back in Oudekerk aan de Amstel (around 20k) there are cobbles which if they haven't been fixed are uneven in places.

...review meeting put back from 10 to 10.30 now, jeezuz, extending the torture.image

What's all the 'app' business all about then? Is it some Iphone thing or something? I'm a bit of a luddite when it comes to technology, still buy, and play, vinyl records, you can't knock em haha!

EDIT: Cheers for the info Dolly, top stuff.

Murph - dont bother with Taxis, especially to get to the airport. They are extortinate! Much better of with the train - cheap, quick and always on time

Neil - this 'app' business is indeed a mobile phone thingy. if you dont have a smart phone, dont worry about it!

  • Options

Perhaps you should give so upward feedback that your bosses time management skills needs some work.

Johnas, I would normally use the train but a bit worried about my sense of direction after rehydrating on Amstel.

  • Options

Wow, this carb loading is tough. Had breakfast then mid morning snack, now its almost lunch time (I am in NL) and I am not nearly hungry. I expected it to be more fun than this!

Murph - Dolly can probably confirm but a taxi will be about 40 - 50 euros so bear that in mind when getting the rounds in image

A train is 4euros + a pretty straight forward 30 minute walk to Amsterdam Centraal from Leidesplein

I am 'working' from home today so had a lie in, eaten lots of carbs, done a quick 3 mile run with the dog and now about to hit the shower! (also cleaned the bathrooms and hoovered....a real Che cleaner!)

I have felt rough all week with a sore throat now got a cough brewing - but gutted as I think I need to think about going out slower. There is no way I am missing it but as someone on here said if you have a cold above the neck then fine (i inlcuded sor throat in that...) but in the chest you need to be careful. Sounds like I have my excuse sorted however I've done 5 maras and finshed them all but worried I could DNF this one now. 4 months training no illnesses then bang week 16 and i pop a glute and get a cold!

After aa few beers Sunday evening I reckon I'll feel a lot better eh!

on a more positive note its going to be a beautiful Autumn day, a tad warm but almost perfect conditions. Paris in April was mentally hot, Berlin last September was pouring with rain. I always expect the worsts weather so really looking forward to a run in the autumn sun!.

Meeting over. And I still have a job!! Tried not to say much, but I find that impossible, so it went on a while, kind of went in thinking 'make this like a nice easy recovery run' and came out after doing 2 hours at Vo2 max! Can now concentrate fully on the race, and more importantly the post race beerage!! It's all good.

Johnas, cheers, don't have an Iphone, though the Mrs does so will point her in the general direction of the website.

Murph - what the J man above said re taxis. Don't waste yer valuable drinking money (make mine a lrage Amstel mate, cheers!), train to station all the way, fast, regular, efficient (the opposite to my running style in fact!image)

Blockbuster - sounds like the revolution has been put on hold for some domestic chores. Fair enough, even socialist revolutionaries have to keep a clean place before storming the gates of worker oppression! Total joe strummer about the cold mate, pump yourself full of every cold'n'flu drug known to mankind and keep it in check. Just take it easy at the start and see how you go Sunday, you may surprise yourself. Yep, weather looks fantastic, similar to today here in Edinburgh, bright and warm, great stuff, the past 2 years I've done Amsters the weather's been great, looks like it's kept the deal again.

Breaking news: I've changed my breakie choice from OatsSoSimple to Weetabix. That was after spending about an hour in Tesco last night looking at every single cereal known to mankind (sad man or what) for it's carb/sugar/fat content, Weetabix came out on top, and no need for having to heat anything up, just add milk, some honey and sultanas (also taking them with me) and the jobs a goodie.

    4 hours till hometime.....

Murph - a taxi is 7.50 euros just to get in it and travel 2km. Johnas is correct about the price as well, they are not cheap here.

Last winter the trains and buses stopped running in the snow and they offered to take you from the airport to town for 120 euros!! It is illegal but only if they get caught!!

If anyone is staying at the Mercure Hotel near the airport get the bus197 (bay 11) from outside the airport to Anderlechtlaan and it is over the road. You would be lucky to get a taxi to take you there because it such a short journey. I work about 10/15mins by bus from the airport and most, not all, refuse to take you as they lose money on the journey. Under the arches are about 100 taxis waiting to get to the front of the queue.

Flying out of london City on Saturday morning on the 9-25am flght back Monday morning about 11am

OK will text her! (she should will be with b/f and kid too.) looking at the course its near Amstel station, 17/18/19 miles

I'm jealous of my mates (Leighton Buzzard AC - purple vests and yellow writing) they went on the Luton 6.10 this morning and not coming back until weds...

I did ask the missus and got that look before I even finished the question!! (although to be fair she is a runner too and would have been jealous!)

Good luck all - weather looks perfect.

I also thought stuffing my face would be nice but I'm struggling.  Not the same appetite when I'm not running...I'm carbed outimage.

Good luck everyone and have a good one.  Let's hope we can all hit our targets.

I'm still here. Booked a taxi to and from my local airport as I also plan on having a few beers after the run. The train is pretty straight forward in Amsterdam and as all the staff speak English and are well aware that we are useless at reading even the most simple of signs they are all used to directing the English to the appropriate platform.

Mind you the ticket machine provided a stern challenge when I was sober so I don't fancy messing with it once I've had a few beers.

Good luck to everyone. I have decided to man up and try and forget about my cold and significant lack of long runs and hope for the best.

I fear I am about to be found out but nothing ventured....
