Yeah, weather forecasting is not an exact science and trying to predict the weather beyond a couple of days, especially in a country like the UK, severely tests even the most complex modelling systems.
So, until Thursday, my advice would be to take any forecast for the weekend with a pinch of salt. From Friday morning onwards, check the local (as opposed to the ‘broad stroke’ national) weather forecasts using the links below. Then you will know, with a fair degree of certainty, what the weather is going to be like come Saturday.
But as long as you bring a smile, and have the right gear for anything the weather can throw at you, then there is no reason why you can't have a great race! And just think, this time next week it will all be over...for another year at least.
this is my first beachy head and I'm really looking forward to it. Coming down with my buddy and a big turnout from Tring RC. Will certainly be joining you all at the pub after....will check here for pub location before coming down...happy tapering y'all
If anyone knows of an unused ticket for the Marathon on Saturday 22nd October, I would be grateful. I have done the run for many years, but this year I missed the boat in booking.
"I should have made it more clear that my intention was such, and Buddha's response was funny - I was unfortunately on the wrong end of a good mug-off"
yeh - inaccurate questions will always lead to an element of piss taking from me. glad you saw the lighter side eventually Robster.....
it's still dry as a bone in Zuzzex so unless it actually hammers it down with rain towards the end of the week (which I doubt) then the trails will be fine for road shoes imho. the chalk tracks are very good at soaking up a deluge - it's constant rain over a period that makes them muddy. the forecast for this week is little or no rain until at least Friday - what Saturday brings is still open to question and it will depend on how quickly that Atlantic front moves into the South East - hopefully slowly until at least Saturday evening! I would think that even if it does rain on race day, road shoes will still be fine but I would have trail shoes available if it hammers down
I entered in March but am now more than a little aprehensive.... Still have remained cold and niggle free so apart from some of my long runs being made shorter by the local cows (they can smell my fear...), I can't complain.
I didn't realise there was a forrest section. As long as theres no cows I think I'm going to really enjoy the experience....
Thanks Fat Budha for your help and support despite some of the negativity.
I'd imagine the trails will be ok as they do dry fast, just hope that the forest is not too muddy as long enough anyway without going sidewards all the time! But can't be as bad as 2009, or can it?
Anyone else looked at the course profile on the visit eastbourne site? I've done this twice and know that I don't remember routes well but it's nothing like how it's felt to me running it! The profile tells me that what I have actually run is two huge hills (1/4 and 1/2 way points), but the the 7 bitches look like speed humps! I always felt that it was lumpy throughout then 7 bitches at 20m, hard couple of miles then getting legs going again but flat, before beachy (with the finish always twice as far away at that point as you imagine!)
Still looking forward to it, whatever the mud or hills
Help......have had a cold since Monday and been off work 2 days......slow progress with recovery. Will need vast improvement by tomorrow to make Saturday. Can I still make it? Advice appreciated
looks like it's colds all round - I've had my first one in nearly 2 years this week. thankfully a short and sweet version and it's gone now.
the weather is indeed looking good for race day - sunny all day, southerly breeze (stops you falling off the Bitches into the sea..), but not the warmest - 13C max.
it's a road shoes day folks - you won't need off-roaders as the tracks are dry as a bone

Whaaaaaaaat ?
I'd better go and get a decent waterproof jacket.
The poor old Credit Card is going to be poorly next week.
Night all.

Fat Buddha - mud free forest sounds wonderful to me
Just wanted to wish everyone good luck.

See you all Saturday!
errrrm.... oh dear... [gulp]
shall I tell him or should somebody else???
Sussex Runner - a comedian as well lol
Sadly I do have some morals
I don't even put newspapers through my expenses, this is just lucky that we have parts I need to check up on at a supplier in Southampton.
Planned a similar trip last year around a supplier / marathon, ended up paying out over £200.
So win some, lose some.

Nah I'll be in my trails. I like my trail shoes. Any excuse. Also I fall down very easily as you may note on Saturday night if I make it to the pub.
Looking forward to a nice sunny day out on the Downs
