Good luck for next weekend everyone. I will be pacing a friend at 3:30pace, so that is my time goal. Fingers crossed for dry and not too warm on the day. Enjoy the cake eating this week, or as some call it, tapering .
Hello, apologies for crashing this thread, first timer here looking for advice...
I was hoping that someone local could recommend a good place to meet up after the race for food & drink? Maybe in the town or we will be driving back to the Midlands so it could be somewhere just out of town on the way up. We will be 4 probably unshowered and very weary runners plus assorted husbands and small children...
Drove the course yesterday. It's looking good. Long-horn highland cattle might be a trip hazard!
Thats all I need after almost being trampled underfoot by New Forest Ponies on a stampede last year, being gored by rampaging Highland Cattle this year.
Decided I will not be wearing my club vest for the race this year but will instead wear my Help for Heroes running vest that I wore when I ran the VLM this year. If the weathers going to be like its promised its going to be perfect conditions.
Running here for the first time (2nd of 6 Halfs im running in 12 weeks), and in order to appease the wife we are staying in Bournemouth Fri / Sat nights. Whats the traffic like getting to the event from the South ? We are staying at the Devere village, so I think its just a short hop around Christchurch and up the A337, but can anyone spare any advice regarding arrival. Is there access to the car park from the A337 ? the map isnt clear....Planning on leaving the hotel about 8am, thinking that`ll give me 1/2 hourish to get in and parked up...is that realistic ?
1/2 hour might be enough but I'd give yourself another 15 minutes. I live in Christchurch and I'm leaving at 7:45. Use Christchurch Bypass (A35), driving through town is a PITA as Bridge street is closed to traffic. Go into New Milton on the A337. Car parks will be signposted and marshalled. Off the A337 (next to Fawcett Fields sports ground - don't park at the sports ground) there's a big field being used as a car park with a track leading to Gore Road which is at the finish and not too far from the recreation ground and start. If that's full, the junior school a few hundred yards up the A337 is easy to find too.
Good luck twig, I`ll hopefully do a full one next year, but only started running last year, after having an ankle rebuilt and being told id struggle to walk long distances! So, still trying to figure out if the ankle could take 26 miles ! Managed to get up to 16 miles in training over the winter so theres hope ! Stubborn old git that i am ! Wont be rushing off after the event, will be hanging around eating, drinking and supporting others
Don't forget the free BBQ for runners at the Rydel arms. Alas, all the nosh will be gone by the time I'm finished!
My story's a bit like yours. I only started running 2 years ago after major surgery. Was inspired by a lady who had an op the same day as me and discovered she had cancer. She'd have not found out unless she'd gone under the knife for something else. I ran a 5k race for life 15 weeks later and never looked back. Dropped 4 stone too! Done 4 half marathons, my first was the NF 1/2 last year.
Please wave as I cross the line. I'll be the wrinkly old bag at the back!
Thanks Coxy. Not sure if there'll be much left by the time I finish , also not sure how easy it would be for husbands/littlies, might be a bit busy to have crazy pre-schooler running around! Anyone have any alternatives, just in case?
The Cliffhanger is child friendly, just off the A337 between New Milton and Christchurch, lovely views. From there it's pretty easy to pick up the A35 which will take you to the M27/M3/A34 towards Oxford and the Midlands.
Buggsie there are quite a few en route. My family went and had lunch while I was still out on the course - they showed me the photographic evidence at the finish (highly supportive I know). Easier to just find somewhere with a pub garden afterwards where you can eat and they can run wild! Depends on what sort of time you're aiming for. There's a pub at Burley which is now at the 13 mile mark, they can see you run through and then go for lunch and dogs and children are allowed in (can't remember what the menu's like)! Just a thought ....
Well, here's me full of cold 4 days before the marathon, not a happy bunny!! Will have to take a very late decision on weather to run or not - at the moment chances are 20% - not good!
Hi everyone, I've entered the 1/2 marathon and it will be my first ever one - having only done one 10K before! I can sense the pre match nerves already!
Reading through this thread has been really helpful - giving me some idea of what to expect on the day.
Do you think i should carry round my own drink on the run, or are the drink stations enough? I have a belt which 'holds' a water bottle but I think Hilly designed it so that the bottle deliberately jumps out of the belt every time i put my right foot in front of my left one!

Thanks Forever Hopeful & Darkman. Let's hope we all have a good run.
Now it's just a case of keeping our fingers crossed for the right weather. As long as it's not too warm or windy I'll be happy!
the weather if forecast for sunny though cool.
According to Accuweather. It's near perfect running weather now (just back from a 5 along the beach).

Bugsie: A free runners' BBQ has been organised by the NFM Ltd if that's any help? It's at The Rydal Arms (which is near the start line):

The junior school is on the A337. If you go over the traffic lights by Lidl you've gone too far!
Good luck. You'll be long gone by the time I finish the marathon! (my first).

There's always the Harvest at the Cat and Fiddle on the A35 just outside Christchurch on the Lyndhurst Road http://www.harvester.co.uk/find-a-harvester/thecatfiddlehintonadmiral.html
Or believe it or not, the Toby Carvery a mile nearer to Christchurch is popular locally. http://www.tobycarvery.co.uk/hintonchristchurch/findus/ they give out activity books and crayons to children and have a kids menu.
Does anyone want a number for the full marathon? We have past the official transfer date though.
