Where are you based, and how far would you be willing to travel for a particular distance?
I'm in Scotland, so all my recommendations would be Scottish races, but you might not want to travel that far.
Thanks Wilkie, that's close by and not run it before.
Ok, my recommendations:
May - Stornoway half marathon - never run it, but it comes highly recommended.
June - Mull of Kintyre Half Marathon - fab fab fab fab fab
October - Loch Ness Marathon/Aviemore half marathon - both mega scenic and well organised. Depending on how they fall, you might just get both in at either end of a week's holiday,
great south run in portsmouth in october?
brutal 10 in december in bordon?
June - Dorking 10 mile - Road
June - Polesden Lacey 10k - Off road
May - Denbies 10 mile - Off road
May - Richmond Half Marathon - Road and Towpath
October - Greensands Marathon - Off road
December - Ronhill Classic 10k - Road
June - Midsummer Munroe Half Marathon - Off road
Beginning of Sept Bacchus Half and Full Marathon - Mixed terrain
To name but a few........All of the above are in Surrey
Or Hell Down South (November), also just off A3 near Petersfield and a hilly mud-fest.
Finstock 10k (Oxon), September - lovely little off road race in a country park, and has a great goody bag and cakes.
May there is the bedgebury 10k trail blazer, which is quite nice, but it's in kent which will be alittle trek for you
May: North Dorset Village Marathon
August: Milland Valley Half
Will post later this week with my selections !
Keep em coming !

I love the BUPA 10 in London for May - have run it twice and think it is a great PB course and excellently organized
I think it's on Sunday 27th...
Cheers Catalina, is it 10miles or a 10k ? Sounds good either way after London Marathon the week before.
It is a 10k race

I love it because it takes in many of the great sights and finished on the mall.
It is popular though so if it sounds good enter quickly if you want to secure a place without having to run for charity.
I think it is 5 weeks after the London Marathon, so pleny of time for your legs to recover
Isn't Bracknell HM in May? I've heard good things about there, was meant to do it earlier this year but had to pull out due to illness.
Nothing for July yet?
How about a trip to the Lake District for the Lakeland Trails marathon or half - moderately tough off-road races (particularly if its as hot as it was this year!) in a superb location with a great atmosphere.
July - TBC, when I get a space few minutes I will have a look, both an option but I can only do one !
Whats Dartford like Wilkie ?
Thanks for all the suggestions
Hi Funny Hat,
I'm also from the Reading area, and a few races I've either done or heard about are:
May
Woodley 10K, very local/easy to get to, fairly fast road course.
Shiplake 10k, also fairly near, off road with some hills. nice scenery, and has a school sports day feel, so family friendly
(Also in that time scale, there's the maidenhead 10 miler, always on good Friday, I believe, not the most scenic course, but a different distance to normal.
august/early sept
The Maidenhead half was in early sept this year, was their first one, and once the few teething problems are sorted, it's a nice course and quite fast.
october
Reading O2O 10k, not done this myself, but is supposed to be quite good, and it's in Reading so no transport issues.
Halloween 5k night run, shorter distance than you specified, but I've heard it's quite good fun, running with just head torches. Not done this myself, as will be in Dublin doing the marathon, also recommended, as love the course and the city.
end nov/december
Rugged Radnage 10k, did this last year for their first one, tough, muddy, hills, but good fun.
grim challenge original, very different to normal, running through puddles and under cargo nets. on the expensive side, and more fun as part of a team than a solo runner.
Just a few more ideas into the mix!
Martin
Cheers Martin.
Still looking at options, should have it nailed down soon though !!
June... Southdowns Marathon is a lovely one to do
July ... New forest 10
August...Salisbury 54321 trail races from 5k-ultra, Milland Vally trail 13 or Northdowns marathon in farnham
October...Great South run or I hear Beachyhead marathon is a great race not that I have tried it!
December...A Santa run, there must be one in reading! Or the Grim as already mentioned
