I had planned to do IMUK this year and started my fink plan completing the first 10 weeks without any issues. Unfortunately I let myself down and my training slipped to the point where I have withdrawn and feel glum
I now am off running due to going over on my ankle on the last bank hoilday, but am enjoying 30min - 1hr sessions on the turbo trainer until my ankle improves.
I have a burning desire to become an Ironman and next Jan I will be 40...........Let the fun begin!!!
Good effort Nurse! I was a bit nervous cycling in the rain for the first few times, but I actually quite enjoy it now (weird?). Love running in the rain, too, but then I prefer trail to road, and rain adds to the atmos. I've done a couple of bricks in prep for my first sprint Tri this coming Sunday, no jelly legs yet (maybe I'm not biking hard enough)?
Lock Laces - these are basically elastic laces, although is another type
They are the ones I have, they are great imo, always used to have pain in my feet from overtightening my laces due to an injury I had a couple of years ago, but since getting these I have no pain at all, and it helps speed up getting your trainers on and off
Thats what I use as well - but because I'm lazy!! It was actually a guy I did NY marafun with convinced to try these - he told me the year before he stood on the start line of the marathon, tied his shoe lace agian and it snapped! Ruined his whole race!! Whilst lock laces can break, its pretty unlikley!!
I binned my elastic laces after finding myself in the middle of a huge muddy puddle, with one shoe on and the other left behind, stuck in the mud. That was with trail shoes tho', so I really should give them a shot in my road shoes.
Hi everyone can I play too? I'm a newbie and looking at doing a ironman next year at some point. This thread seems a lot of fun as well as supportive. I'm an ok runner, crap cyclist and an even crappier swimmer. I'm started to have swimming lessons which is knackering. I brought the Fink book as people on here seem to follow it..must say it has made the whole notion of an ironman much more achievable..so I'm up for it...I tend to be injury prone so plan to take it easy at first and then see what happens!
Just back from my first ever brick. Just a wee one to see how it would feel, but I have to say I quite enjoyed it. Oooh, the jelly legs is a strange sensation!
Had forgotten to charge my Garmin, so relied on bike computer. Bike loop: 9 miles / 36min. T1 (lol) 1 minute. Run: 2 miles / 19 min.
Now I need a hot shower, coffee and cake.
I got one big positive out of it. As most of you know, I have been quite nervous on the bike following an unsuccessful gravel surfing experiment last year. I have avoided biking in the rain as it was braking on a wet road that caused the tumble. Today, however, I H'dTFU and went out in the rain (stinging rain & wind). And I was absolutely fine. 'S all good.
Special, well done very proud of you in a very manly way of course! enjoy work this evening!
NBC and ET7 - welcome guys (or gals?!?) actually that's a point what happened to the roll call list? (SD WTF?)
So good good, NBC is male, lazy and wants to be an IM, so that's about the same as 50% of us on this thread... you'll fit right in... ET7 is extra terrestrial who likes to run but could drown in a puddle and hasn't done much cycling since getting the stablisers off... so that's the other 50% then
yep you've come to the right place! (i prefered razor's name for ryan!)
Hi ET7 ... welcome. My first IM next year too (Wales ... cos I live here). I ordered the Fink book today. And I'm also crap at swimming. What can go wrong???
Gas tank that pretty much sums me up! I'm a gal btw. My furthest cycle is 40 miles and at the mo my furthest run in 10 miles and I can just about do 25m front crawl..so plenty to work on me thinks!
Though this will change on Sunday as doing a charity 100 mile cycle..mental given I've not really trained properly but it's a charity thingy that seemed like a really good idea in January!
Hi all, just checking back in. More new arrivals? Cool!
Using the non-arrival of my Fink book as an excuse to dodge 'proper' training.
Have been pottering in the pool and just pondering how to fit extra training round everything else I already do. Swimming's no problem and I've been running for years so not too worried there but I know I'll have to do heaps of cycling to get up to a halfway reasonable standard. Longest ride to date is the yearly 55 mile charity event I've been doing since 2006 which isn't even continual as I always make full use of the refreshment stops and take all day to get to the end...

Hi All
New to the blog, so please go easy on me!!!!!!

Good job Nurse. That's the key: getting used to that wobbly feeling.
Righto - off on holiday this evening to Italy for a looong weekend in the Sun. I'm guessing a 1 - 2 kg weight gain before I return.
Welcome Ryan... you've come to the right place!!
Quick suggestion - change your name before Gastank arrives!!
Yep welcome to the asylum Ryan.
Rat4skin has ring to it....Shit ..better get a bigger coat.....(slopes off sheepishly).
Done
Ryan
And get a pic up!

You have waaaaayy too much time on your hands Nursey!
Off to work tonight, so that should keep me out of trouble for an hour or five

Or maybe you're just hardcore super-fit
Welcome nbc
Plinsky - I wear different trainers for the bike and running, takes about 5 seconds to change them if you have elasticated laces.
Donkey - have a good weekend, not jealous at all, I'm sure we will see the sun soon
Elasticated laces... is it something you can purchase separetly and add to your shoes...? Welcome Ryan - I am new too (night before last)... good luck

I also have camping pitches at Box Hill to watch the mens & womans cycling,

Nurse, same thing happened to me on a boggy dualathon. Still love elasticated laces though.
Not sure why my post from this morning has reappeared at 16.55 ?

Yeh, but Gas - you missed the really important thing!! I managed to do a link thingy properly!! Muckee will be impressed!!
Welcome ET7
The furthest I have done on the bike is 39 miles so your ahead of me there
ET7 - I did an 85 mile ride earlier this year - my longest (continual) ride before that was only about 42, so you should be fine
