Emmy - there are 3 ferry service and an airport, but flights are with Flybe only and expensive!

The UK doesnt want my blood as I have a heart condition (despite a cardiologist saying it's all ok)
Germany and every other country in Europe do not want my blood as I lived in the UK during the mad cow period. I've tried giving platelets but they still don't want it.
Not impressive really Emmy - the slightest puff o wind and one stops running althogether, and the other tow aren't that great either!!

Tons to do but I have lost all motivation........gardening or study???? Neither appeals.
Kaz - I think its utterly stupid if i'm honest. I'm willing to sign a disclaimer and if my specialist has signed off on it - they should be OK. I've been called crazy and had my sanity questioned but never a mad cow.
The weather is beautiful the wind makes it quite cold outside so the fashion decisions for tomorrows race are now in question. Long tights? 3/4 lengths?
3/4 with long socks.........very fetching!! but at least you can push socks down if you get too warm???
I think this is the point though. In reality, donated blood is heavily processed before it is transfused into someone else, and most often it is a component of blood that is tranfused, not whole blood. The processing takes 2-3 days usually (testing mostly). We have these issues when parents only want us to use "family blood" for their infants (which is actually less desirable than random donor blood) - blood is an emotional issue. I actually had one father who asked me, when I explained that we'd prefer random donor blood over his - "but then I wouldn't be his father anymore, would I?".
PC91 - if it's in my son's genes, I need to order a paternity test! And a maternity one for that matter.
Kaz - what time of year do we need to be looking at to visit?
Emmy - guess the rules are in place as much to protect you as to protect those you're helping.
I'd love to go back to Orkney. I could eat fudge all day ...
Just realised I've signed up for 2 races in one day, a 20k in the morning and a night 10k. That will be a first. Emmy, you're rubbing off on me fnarr fnarr ....
Just had a fantastic 8 miles - through 3 parks, 3 steep hills, chatting to other runners, sun on my face. I hope you guys are getting out there today/tomorrow. It's lovely running conditions in them there hills of hampstead

Had a good morning's skiing - certainly blew away the cobwebs. Almost blew away the funicular too.
I have been to Orkney twice! Once on holiday when I was 8 and the second time was a university field trip to study voles... Didn't see many voles but found plenty of pubs. Very seasick on the way home. Or it mght have been the 8 pints before we got on the ferry.
Simon - What did you study that you needed to study voles??
Weedy - All I can advise is it would need to be in the short window of June/July when the days are at the longest(never really dark) and we can all go running at KOC!!!!

Kaz - I was studying Zoology at Aberdeen University. From memory, voles are very interesting creatures. (I just can't remember why).
