I was one of the people 'moaning' about the delays, to use your phrase not mine. If you take the time to go back and re-read the posts of people who were affected by the problems on Sunday you will see that by and large most of praised the race and the course organisation but had some genuine concerns about some of the post-race organisation - for example standing around in the cold for 30 plus minutes after a half marathon I feel is unacceptable and could have been avoided, and from Hugh Brashers comments he appears to agree.
I have enjoyed both of the RHMs I have done and plan to take part in future events, although I will probably skip the next couple in order to give the organisers a chance to iron out some of these teething troubles.
However I feel, as a paying entrant that I have a right to raise a question over some areas of organisation that were poor, and caused some concern to myself and other runners, and could have been improved - this is constructive criticism hoped to make a good event even better, and it is a shame that you cannot see the difference between this and just ‘moaning’.
And ‘Thank you’ to Hugh for coming here and taking the time and effort to explain what happened.
BTW I'm with you on the goody bag thing, as long as there's water.
like the pictures Rich! (have I been 'touched up' as you promised!)
still on a massive high from a PB by a huge margin, well under 2.10 largely thanks to the fantastic pacing and encouragement all round from seaweed - thanks Chris you were great and said all the right things at the right times, I am so grateful! and running with the lovely Linda and Alex P, we had a good little group going round, and its a shame there weren't more of us all together as we had a great time despite the weather (thanks to alex and seaweed for sheltering little me from the hail and the wind half way round)
As for the comments on the race, well I'll leave the sweatshop side of things to Hugh, he even beat me to it coming onto the forums and he and the organisation team have taken note of everything you have all said.
Very happy - I must have bored customers stiff in the shop on Monday, going on about the race! now for sub 2...
annajo - sorry I didn't get to say hello on Sunday. It's only after seeing Rich's pics that I realise I met you without knowing who you were. I would have thanked you in person for all the help you give on the forum - so thanks!
cheers OB, thats really good for me to read! Not 100% sure I was fully compos mentis when I met you, after the race, I would have introduced myself better otherwise!
Thanks for the pictures Rich. I look like a stuffed turkey just like at Stratford Marathon last year. I think you should put that one of Spans up there with a caption competition.
Having just checked Athletics Weekly where they list all the top M/F finishers, I’m a tad miffed that because the results have been sorted by gun and not chip time, my name isn’t listed!
LindaT, Sorry not to be able to email directly. Thanks for a great run, good fun despite the sleet and a great effort by the sub 2.10 team, true grit.shame we got split up at the finish, but looking forward to the photos...
susie, its down to BARR rules - (British Association of Road Races I think) - official results have to be given as gun time rather than chip time, I just checked.
why do I have a stupidly massive grin in all of richks pictures?! whats the matter with me - 13 miles is a long long way!!
Rich, the guy in a binliner and red headband from your piccies is Jay Dear
Ok, I've obviously still not found anything better to do, so...
You may have noticed that the website (http://www.nt4309.vs.netbenefit.co.uk/reading/) has now published the categorised results. I'm not going to do each category individually, but I've taken the complete list ("Full race-men and women") and converted to spreadsheet with a 'chip position' for both the entire race and the individual categories. Once again, I've deleted the names, so you need your race number. Since it's an Excel file you can re-sort it any way you like if you also want to find your position out of all men, for example. Visit www.leeandkate.com and follow the relevant link. Any problems, feel free to e-mail (lee@leeandkate.com)
There are 10 peculiar entries on the pdf file with no race number, name or category, which you'll notice at the top. No idea where they belong!
