Yesterday I bought 'Eats, Shoots and Leaves' by Lynne Truss, all about the history and correct use of punctuation and based on her Radio 4 series. Very funny and perfect for ex-sub editors and other punctuation geeks who froth at the mouth over misuse of the apostrophe...

Ah, beat me to it, Bune. Title of the book comes from a Panda punctuation joke - panda is described as an animal who 'eats, shoots and leaves' rather than 'eats shoots and leaves'.

Get the book, Andrew! It's really funny and full of explanations on stuff like why on earth we have semi-colons, apostrophes and such like.

Saw the book today in Waterstone's - had to dash back to wuk or I would have had a look - sounds good ) A picture of a panda on the cover, complete with leaves.

I think I'm correct in saying that the word "bird" is not particularly derogatory in the twittering flying creature sense, but is in fact related to the old english word for bride. Or something. All very hazy! Hic!

I've been described as 'anal' when it comes to punctuation. Even my text messages are correctly punctuated, with words spelt in full. No 'l8tr' or 'CU' for me.
