Would it be a good thing if this turns out to be true? If I was BartonRunner, I'm not sure I could live with having left that talent on the couch through the 15 peak years of my life!
The fastest women's Park Run ever run was 15:58. If BartonRunner just wore decent shoes, and removed the wind resistance of her jiggers, that would take her to 16.30... and that's after just 6 weeks of presumably haphazard training.
Assuming that BartonRunner is not on the wind-up, she said the earliest she could do a parkrun was this weekend just gone. The fact she didn't doesn't mean much.
I'm just thinking that if this were true this talent would have been spotted years ago.
Lots of people do a lot of sport very enthusiastically in their youth. It doesn't mean they have any particular talent for it but, if they have, I imagine it would be difficult to miss.
She did say she was going to run it in a few weeks - I'd have thought the 1st of June or 8th June. The only runner in her AG that was new and not in a club did 26.10.

I look forward to the next instalment!

Teachers, coaches etc. aren't daft.
The last place likely to spot sporting talent would be a school.
All depends on the school. Mine sent a girl to the Olympics.
*Tumbleweed blows through thread....*
She's too busy with Bud Baldaro to post here any more?
The OP suggested that her nearest Parkrun was Brockenhurst - the womans record up to now is 19:28 -
Last weeks winning time was 18:24 - (a bloke won it) first woman was 23:38 her second fasted time after 23:37)
So maybe her watch was out by 10 mins or so ?
We need DF3 with his oarsum tracking skillz.
If her PT had any idea of talent, she would, having verified the distance in a car, immediately have put Barton in touch with a club.
I'm reminded of that Halloween episode of The Simpsons...
Sound of car door slamming and the squeal of tyres:
Floor manager: Mr Nimoy! (pause) I don't think he's coming back...
