Question for the clever people, if a tub is left in transition in Nice lets say,from 3pm to 6am with around 115psi, what are the odds of the air expanding/heating/whatever sufficiently to explode said tub(s)?
Given your history with punctures I would have thought it was a racing certainty . Although you could do some calculations as to the increase in pressure due to rise in temperature, I can't see how you can estimate what that temperature increase would be.

Very small.
Pressure is a function of the gas inside the inner right? If you assume that the volume of the inner doesnt change with increasing pressure:
P1/T1 = P2/T2
and:
P2 = P1x(T2/T1)
So, if the temperature overnight in Nice is, let's say 15C (288 K) and during the hottest part of the day its 45C (318 K):
T1 =288, T2 = 318
If we work on the assumption that you pump your tyre to 110psi in the middle of the night, then at the hottest part of the day, it would reach a pressure of 121psi, (or a measly increase of 10psi), which is not enough to blow the inner.
But if you're particularly worried about it, just pump your tyres to whatever pressure you want them at when you rack your bike at 3pm, because after that, the temperature is most likely going to be decreasing.
Flyaway - more thanks, that's what I thought, the latter rather than the formulae that reached the final answer, there's always so many people worrying about pumping up tyres in the morning, would be nice to not have add that to the chores really
There's no point in worrying about it!! If it happens & our various flights get fecked up then unfortunately that is how it goes!! I'd still be firking furious though!!
Ibis is right my Nice station, can anyone fathom the options/cost for 1 way train travel? Could still fly back.
We looked at that before - the problem was getting the bike down with you - there's no guarantee it will be on the same Eurostar. Plus the internal French trains are a bit ropey in terms of luggage.
Driving does look like it could be a chore, probably 14 hours+ (without breaks) for me?
Not train looks so favourable either?
I think ill wait and see what the effects of the strike are Tuesday/Wednesday, should be able to see it/what time the scheduled BA flight leaves Gatwick both days.
The article says there is a commitment to 50% service, im kind of hoping with it being mid week and not 'holidays' that the flights will just be delayed a few hours.

EDITed to make it simpler

Ferret - thanks!

I prefer the old version which explained the equation first.
Who's he calling tubs?

Brilliant!
Let's see what happens!
I feel I'd be a tad overtrained for a parkrun
Oh God this is not good.....
but still undertrained for a 400m swim
Harsh, but fair.
easy jet say watch the flight tracker on website, Only showing as far as monday at moment keep an eye on it fingers crossed..
Well my new bike won't now be ready until Wednesday morning in time for me to pick it up and dismantle it for packing
Am considering but only slightly taking the old bike.

4k swum, so nerrrrr
Symes - is that cumulative over the month?

Will be watching closely.
