  • A three minute mile would be good going image

  • Have I got the right website? Looks ok to me. What about Lydia?

  • Phillip, you are clearly the only representative of your esteemed club, where ever that may be, and obviously have a hand in training, PR, web development, presumably secretarial duties, photography, report writing - hell, I bet you're even president of the world.

Surely you of all people should be able to organise a three minute mile from one of your females?

Though why this is worthy of an entire thread as opposed to a PM, I'm not entirely sure.  You must be dead important, Mr Pub.

  • Okay, which club is this? I googled and found someone of his name on a website for Steyning.

  • This is one the most intriguing thread titles for a long time. What has Mr Pub done to upset the girls?

  • I think Karen's point is that the website has a gallery of 'photos of our athletic endeavours' comprising solely of men.  It's the one of Phil in his shorts that's upsetting the girls, obviously.

But they're clearly not biased, they run at Ladywell track, for a start.  In Catford.  Oh dear.

  • Those shorts eh?

    I'm confused.

    What has Phil done wrong?

Bloody hell, those are some quite striking shorts.

I think it is because the page design is blue (for boys) instead of pink (for girls).

So the website needs more photos of girls in skimpy shorts?

I'll bring it up at the next committee meeting.  image

That would be a whole new thread, but top of the charge sheet would be "running in loud shorts in a built-up area."

  • Starting to worry about Karen, all the threads on sex, and now she wants photos of fit girls in skimpy Lycra .....

.... Anything you want ot fess up Karen ?

  • Why is the membership for women £10 less?

Good question.  I believe it's because club membership opens up fewer race options for women compared to men, e.g. we don't have enough competitive female members to field teams in the national/regional athletics leagues, which are a relatively large drain on club funds.

Karen, I hope you will be writing some strongly worded e-mails to the Race For Life people later, as there doesn`t seem to be any men allowed to run at their events!

Karen does have a point though. The gallery may be a good advert for what goes on at the pointy end of competition but it's not as representative of overall membership activities as it could be.  And I do have some input so I will be having words.

    But the shorts are staying.

Has the world suddenly entered the Twilight Zone?

  • Oh my .... Karen I'm sure the girls are all happy seeing those red shorts image which ones told you they weren't?

This is completely true actually - a recent female recruit to our club told me she was nearly put off joining because the website made it look like it was nearly all blokes. And I was a bit hesitant myself and e-mailed them to ask how many women members they had before I joined.

Well, on that note the 'Some of our athletes' section is also exclusively male.  That said, since it's obviously focussed on the very sharp end, if you don't have any women members at that level you get accused of tokenism if you add an athlete competing at a lower level.  You can't win really.

  • Surely the bigger scandal here is PhilPub in same sock colour shocker. I thought two different coloured socks was part of the legend of PhilPub.

    What's the site?

  • Do you see why you should post links rather than waffling Karen?

  • literatinliteratin ✭✭✭

Cinders just wants to see the red shorts.

The PR misinformation machine is working well.  I only started that nonsense this year!

Cinders - come on, I thought everyone here was a proper interweb stalker!

    Nope, sorry I'm not image

  • But dave.why do they just concentrate on their elite runners in teh some of our athletes section..........

that would indicate that you are not an athlete unles you are fast......

so unless you are a club just for people over a certain speed then i would think a balance of the tahletes in the club would be better

  • PhilPubPhilPub ✭✭✭

I think as an athletics club, if you've got genuine Olympians amongst your ranks, that is always going to be worth shouting about!  But yes, the club is different things to different people, so a balance needs to be struck.

Cinders - the shorts are in there somewhere...
