This new feature on the 620, the up and down oscillation calculator ... is that to test the effectiveness of one's sports bra? Cos if you get a bounce distance, that could be included into mileage.
It might be difficult for race organizers, though - "you said your race is 10K but my Garmin 620 says I ran 9.9K and bounced 250 metres ..."
Also great news about my order - they said they couldn't refund the difference directly, but were able to give me store credit. Which I gratefully accepted! Saved me sending it back and waiting even longer!!
Unfortunately at work so can't take it out for a test run. But am wearing it around the office and showing it off to colleagues!
Had a little play around and it seems really easy to use. The buttons are intuitive so easy to set up and change the settings. Popped out for a sandwich and it picked up the satellites within a minute.
The HR monitor that came in the box is a massive improvement on my old one which came with the 305.
I assumed a footpod would be required for the cadence to be measured. I even thought it might have needed the 620. But it still seems to be measuring it.
This stuff is aesome, I'm going to spend days exploring this whole new world of stats. And I didn;t even bust out the HRM! Ace.
With the iPhone 5's Bluetooth and iOS 7s "Background App Refresh" it seems to actually upload things all automatically for me without it! Will be interesting to see if it duplicates them when syncing through Express Fit instead of the Connect App.
Still have no idea on the cadence though. Off for a recovery jog tonight anyway so will have a look at it in more detail.
So uploaded the 2 second run through both garmin connect and through Express Fit and it only shows up the once.
If you want to setup the watch to talk via wireless you need to download and install the Garmin Express Fit software, then connect via USB the phone the first time and then it setups up the account to login to garmin connect, and you can also configure and upload your wireless network details to your phone so it can upload directly to garmin connect that way.
If you use the garmin trainng centre software, once you have configured all above then you can just click on get data from the device and ensure it has your correct device selected and then hey presto it works, so it will grab from a 610 and a 620 as long as you select the correct device as the one to use, and if 610 you need your old ant stick still.
The Sweatshop website only lists the 220 with hrm, as far as I can see. Is this with the new-fangled strap with the fancy accelerometer doodahs etc or the usual Garmin strap?
The HRM is the snazzy thing with the bits the 220 only does some of the bits, I think? They are only selling them with the monitor at the moment. As far as I can see.
Indeed I confirm the 220 doesn't do the running dynamics, though the cadence does work well with the built in kit. I've not tested the heart rate strap yet.
Seem to only be shipping the versions with HRM at the moment. Makes sense to only sell the higher priced version for now. I wouldn't be surprised if the non HRM version doesn't get released til after the sweatshop exclusivity deal.
Incidentally, I ran with both the 220 and endomondo on the iPhone 5. Both devices gave me audio alerts simultaneously at every half mile split. Which I thought was interesting!

I think it has to go below the boobs otherwise I'm gonna need a bigger strap
Think I'll phone them when it arrives and give them a ring.
Either I can return it and place a new order through the subscriber store, causing great hassle all round... Or they can simply refund the difference.
Think thru will say return see if you can call them before posted might be more flexible
Matty: if anything like me great plans... But it would be ripped open two minutes after I walk through the door.
Woohoo shipped. Now a week cursing their slow deliveries, and i'll be saying why didn't i get it sent to my localish store.
Mine arrived today!!

Its now opened and charging
Ordered a 620 last night, but received an e-mail this morning to say they were out of stock. They still have the orange/white version.
Matty: i refuse to believe you until you post a garmin connect plot
Purple 220 received in the post this morning

Walked to the shop and uploaded it automatically via iPhone 5 and garmin connect app!
Now to explore the functions when I get home. Why does work get in the way of fun?!
Love it. Like the cadence

I think it has a built in accelerometer as well which it can use on treadmills? I wonder if that's what it was using if you were'nt wearing the strap?
If you struggle to find it the Garmin Express Fit software is here :-

Helpful link!

My 620 in the house waiting for me. Time ticking slowly......

So you lucky, lucky guys, what's the bounce-ometer like, and is it true it tells you when to have a day off ????
Well I feel shit still with my cold... But here you go had to plod out 5k so this is with all the geeky bits on the 620
Oh average cadence 174 that isn't to bad.

Annie, told me I need 38 hours rest hehe by after a few more runs I assume it will start revising down.
thanks for sharing your stats bt, love the vertical oscillation, might have to get new sports bra If I get one!!

Either way, I don't need the hrm.

According to Garmin (https://buy.garmin.com/en-GB/GB/sports/running/forerunner-220/prod129397.html) the 220 comes with the premium heart rate monitor (usual one) rather than the HRM-RUN (fancy doodah version).
The only running dynamics the 220 can measure comes from the internal accelerometer or a footpod thingy
Thanks chaps. I already have a Garmin hrm (actually an Ant+ one from Decathlon) and don't feel the need to pay for another one.
