It's a shame this thread has started off so badly, but there doesn't seem to be another thread for the 2015 race so I guess this is the right place to post...

I have just entered and am really looking forward to it!  I was toying with the Ridgeway 85 but was concerned about getting the training in - this one seems like a more sensible option (comparatively, of course image )  Not gone over 50 before and that was a few years ago so lots of training to do!

Does anyone know if the race organisers arrange recce days?  When I did the Lakeland 50 they arranged a 2-day recce of the course, which really helped on race day.  My navigation skills leave a lot to be desired!  image

Hi Kaly, I would just ignore the start of the thread. Matt, the RD, is pretty helpful and I'm sure will get back to you on your question. If not you can also get him on the SVP page on Facebook. Wellcome to the thread.

    Hi Kaly,

Could I point you towards our Facebook community: https://www.facebook.com/groups/SVP100/

I'm sure people on this group will be arranging recce runs closer to the date of the race. You are also welcome to use this RW thread, but people on Facebook may be more responsive.

Whilst I don't formally arrange anything myself, I generally go out and run the route, or sections of the route, prior to the event. If I do, I'll communicate this on the aforementioned community site.

It's definitely a good idea to recce some of the route. Whilst we provide markings along the route during the race, it can be easy to make mistakes, particularly later on in the race when you are tired etc.

Can I also point you towards the Stour Valley Marathon, which I helped out at last year. The marathon goes along approx. 12-13 miles of the Stour Valley Path, so is another good way of seeing some of the route.

    Hope that helps.

1st marathon of the year under the belt last Saturday and 4 weeks till Brighton so training is on track for SVP in August. Man do I want a green shirt. The yellow one I got last year is nice, but it's not green!

Glad the training is going well SAFER! Fingers crossed that green t-shirt will be yours in August image

I am seriously considering doing this but will be minus my OH who would normally drop me off at the start of whatever I am doing, nanny me at checkpoints and be there to pick up the quivering mess at the end! Has anybody who has done this before left their car at the start, and then collected it the next day? Is it a safe area for a vehicle to be left overnight? I am a back of the field plodding type and will likely not finish in time to catch the last train back to Newmarket from Manningtree.

    Any thoughts/comments...(helpful preferably)

It should be fine, depending upon where you leave your car. If you want to double check and are not receiving a quick response here, you could also try asking the question on our Facebook Community page: https://www.facebook.com/groups/SVP100/

There are currently 145 signed up to the race, including one of the fastest long distance runners in the country, and also the winners of the Stour Valley Marathon the other weekend. It should be an exciting race and there are still places left if anyone is looking for a 100km race later this year.

There are now 45 days to go, and there are 158 runners registered. We are still looking for a few more volunteers if anyone is interested in helping out on the day. Further details can be found here:

Many thanks in advance and looking forward to seeing many of you in August.

Hi, I can't find the link to download the GPX file on the route page, I can only see the link to the digital OS Map, can anyone point me to the right section of the page please. Thank you

Hi Twinkling Star, there is an orange download link under the map on the following page: http://www.svp100.co.uk/the-route/

It will download as a kml. Simply use a free website (Google kml to gpx conversion) to convert it to the required format.

Uploading varies from device to device, so I can't offer any advice there I'm afraid, but there should be plenty of information about uploading files on various forums.
