Sounds like the young lad needs to join a club or be guided by a well meaning and experienced runner on the forum. It would be good to see how good he cold be. Sub 15 5k would get him noticed.
That was the problem. Everybody told him, repeatedly, to join a running club and get some proper coaching, especially since he kept getting injured. He was convinced he didn't need any of that.

Looks like he joined Ealing, Southall and Middlesex AC in 2013 as per his Power of 10 profile:

He did join a club.
Eventually he did, yes but it took a bloody long time and a lot of persuasion.
Going back a few years, used to love it when the forum picked another often utterly irrelevant forum to invade, usually between Christmas and New Year, started off with RW USA I think, a bunch of ridiculous threads started, many arguments and the fun of it being that their mods were tucked up in bed for the bulk of it, one other 'attack' was on a knitting forum IIRC, them were't days
Along similar lines was the 'Bromley Vets' thread that ended up with a semi takeover of the forum for the Veterinarians of Bromley

In a strange sort of twist, Karen Samuel was always posting details of offers on cat spaying and neutering. By vets. in Bromley
Okay, I wan't around for most of the threads but having read a good chunk of them I reckon the top three looks like this....
1. Towpath Terror. As a reguar towpath runner with a headtorch this had me in stitches. Quite brilliant.
2. IIII What's my number? Fair play to the guy for fessing up.
3. Samir. I followed the Team UK thread but have only just got round to watching his Reading Half performance (well, the first half mile anyway). How uncomfortable did he look?!? I think he did some job just finishing after that!
Has anyone mentioned a certain someone's rant thread about a runner getting in his way while he was cycling through Richmond Park? The exchanges of opinion in that we're hilarious and almost unbelievable!

I'd forgotten all about it until you reminded me.
Fancy a sherbet lemon ?
Oooh, yes please.
*sook*
He did join a club.

Pretty sad that he didnt get to find out the true limits of his potential.
And yet there's still the fake passport threads up ?
Bizarre.

who can forget either the BROMLEY VETS thread, which incredible long winded posts, while always capitalising BROMLEY VETS.
Or better still, turning up at the race organiser's house, rather than the actual venie for a half marathon!
surely not still coming back boring on?
M. Callegari.
Operating at 5 minute mile pace.
When he lined up for the race, I thought he was one of the nearby footballers who fancied a run out.
🙂

And for the record, I love Saucony
I enjoyed embarrassing bouncing and also the related thread on police complaints.
Some classic threads among these.
I've seen him do circa 15 mins twice at parkrun. My mate who runs circa 17 mins lost sight of him about half way.
If you mention his name he will appear - a bit like Candyman
The person who squirted sports drink at a driver who heckled him/her on a run.
Fellrunner, was it, who disappeared into a hole while out on a run.
"Scores on the doors" used to keep many of us entertained with tales of lambing.
When did Jon first ask someone if they liked chicken?
And then, the real life story threads like those of fatface and his beloved wife, Cath and her cancer, others with their fights against illnesses.
This one still makes me chuckle...

BIB - one of the best ever
Aah the lambing thread- compelling reading:

I'd forgotten this time wasting thread, thank god they took the precise timing of postings:

Fellrunner still does Lambwatch over on Fetch. Getting close to the end of this year's lambing, so he should be close to hallucinations by now.
