So 2016 hasn't finished (comprises of Half Holkham and IM Mallora) and 2017 season is in my thoughts..
I wanted to go back to Avon Tyrell and have a go at double/triple/ whatever but its the last year for AT this year. Boo.
So will focus on a "European" I single IM instead.
On my list is
1. Austria (already done twice) but her indoors wants to go back to this one above all others we have done.
2. Switzerland (not done, but always wanted to do this one)
3. Roth?
4. Lanzarote (4th attempt, but still want to go sub 14! - I just don't do winter training and always turn up well unfit)
5. Vichy - also has the green light from the financial controller (her indoors)
Short of putting balls into a bowl and pulling one out - any suggestions for Ironman #35? (assuming I finish Mallorca!)
Comments
Dave - I did Vichy last year and thought it a great race in a great venue - I may even go back myself in 2017
I think the pirates are going to Bolton....:0
But some will definitely do lanza...
why not tackle the new deca at Dorney lake
Dorney Deca?
If the distance doesn't kill you, the boredom surely would? How many laps of the bike course would that be? answers to the nearest million!
Iv'e also done Switzerland twice now. Another really good race and the lake is amazing to swim in - have done it with and without wetty
36 bike loops a day i believe,.,,...a 5k loop..starts the day after my 25th wedding annivesary...If I hadnt retired Id be interested
Only the old Pirates are going to Bolton!!
Vichy was on my radar. Did you drive down Will?
Not too early at all... I've already decided what I'm doing next year!!
I vote for Switzerland... I've not done the race, but I have family who live on Lake Zürich, the bike course goes past their door.... the area is gorgeous, the lake is lovely to swim in (I have done that).
Yes - I drove down and stopped on one of the camp site.
Well, seeing as I am banned from the big stuff, I might try an Oly. Any recommendations in the summer (ie June, July or August), in the South-ish, preferably not Windsor and preferably not a sea swim.
?
Did someone say Deca?
Dustboy - how about Reading Tri - normally first weekend in September and has a very helpful, pleasant ref in transition
ahh - Brutal events are doing it..
I'm aiming for Vichy 2018 I think. Outlaw full first though.
There will definitely be a contingent going back to Lanza next year (accommodation already booked!).
Zurich is beautiful. I supported Ironbaws when she did it a couple of years ago and fell in love with the city.
Lanzaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!!
...maybe...
i usually lose the will to live on lap 3 to he honest . And the inevitable head/crosswind would be a killer after a while
I've done a deca on short laps... I did say never again..
try Brett Ashford Tri, Thorpe Park Tri (standard distance - they alos have 2 sprints), Arundel Triathlon (river swim), Redhill Tri (same organiser as Thorpe Park), Sussex Tri (tough bike course) - I've reffed all these and can say they are very good events and ones I'd do myself
If Dave can cope with the horrendous bike course of Avon tyrell with horses and hills and cattlegrids and road narrowings etc then he can cope with a bit of wind
Cheers all. The Thorpe ones are just down the road from me and it is my fave lake.
make sure you choose the Thorpe Park Tri and not the Thorpe Tri. the one I suggested is run by TriProject and comes with a BTF permit; the other doesn't. as part of your entry, you get a discounted ticket for the rides in the Park.
I was going to recommend the same. Did The Quintiles last year. Lovely event. Very friendly. Shallow lake, nice bike and the run is laps around the lake, mainly on grass.
But surely somewhere warm would be better for the dodgy hip?
180 KM on 5KM laps = 36 per day
So 360 laps in total. Enough to find every pot hole
I like the bit about "free transport to/from a hotel in Windsor" - by day 4/5/6/7 you will be getting out of your trainers and straight back into your wettie for the next one...
Any fast bodies out there up for donation ?
I have a few events in the calendar already.
Forest of dean Spring 1/2 Mara London mara,
Titan Brecon
Westonbirt Sprint
Bolton IM
Also probably a few Oli's and a late season mara plus the odd DBmax Duathlon at Castle Coombe
Currently, I've only got London Marathon penned in for certainty.... but think that 2017 won't be a year of going long... instead I'll focus on some shorter stuff, partially to give my body a bit of a rest, partially to give my family a bit of a rest, and partially to build some speed up for a return to long distance in 2018...
But I'll be at Bolton cheering the pirates on for sure!
I said I'd take next year as a rest year but already getting tempted to do Bolton again...
