Shin splints on the road but not treadmill

As the title says.  On the treadmill my shins are fine, outside, I can't run a mile.  I've read the other thread about shin splints. I'm assuming the treadmill is a softer surface.  I'm finding it really frustrating as I'm just trying to get back into my running after a couple of years of meh!

WeV - I expect you don't run in the same way on a treadmill as you do when you're outside.

When you're outside check you're not overstriding and keep the pace down and aim to run 'lightly' on your feet.   Also make sure your shoes have adequate cushioning/support for your needs too.

Tread mill you hardly push, you just go through light motions. On the road etc your pushing your bodyweight to get you moving so a lot more stressful on your legs.

It might just be a lack of cushioning from your shoes that you are using on the road. I would look into the shoes as well as your stride.
