Training for my third marathon and shins are getting tight as soon as I start my run and then goes after 3-4 miles. Gait analysis done and new shoes (2-3 months old). Any advice on what is causing this and how I can resolve this problem? Thanks
Try stretching your calves before you go out. I have a similar thing last year. Would start fine then around 2 miles both shins would start to burn but around 5 miles the pain would subside and I would be fine. I find stretching my calves before a run definitely helps.
I had the same problem when I was marathon training. I initially thought I had the dreaded shin splints. It was actually knots in my calf muscle. This muscle tightening was causing pressure on my shins. I bought an addaday roller to really work out the knots post run and used hot then cold shower applied to the area 5 or 6 times to help flush the area. Cleared up after a couple of days...
