As an IM hopeful I have found the many threads a source of invaluable information. Yes, there is good stuff in there as well.
As a lurker I'd like to say thanks to the experts who have passed on the benefit of their knowledge and experience, I know I have learned a load of important stuff.

its a race in zurich swim 2.4 miles in the lake, then cycle 112 miles in the foothills of the alps, then run a marathon. you have to finish in less than 16 hours (there are cut off limits for the swim and bike, too).
there are quite a few people aiming for sub-12 hours (which is a bit like aiming for a sub-3 marathon). others just want to finish.
you should be able to still get a flight out for the weekend, rabbit
sez - most started training 9 months ago. some people had to learn to swim and ride a bike and do their first marathon in that period. pretty amazing really. everybody should be in good enough shape to finish, although one or two might be causing us palpitations by chasing the cut off. as FB says, its not the time that matters though, its just finishing that counts, whether its 11 hours or 15.
Wowza! - I started training for FLM 9 months ago, no way I could have learnt to swim and done the bike training too and put all three together. Now I see why it's called Ironman.
Well, tonnes of best wishes and whatever time you come in, it's certainly a massive achievement.
I shall look forward to stories afterwards. I hope some of you are coming to the 29th July social as well as your own on the 22nd.
Rabbs - I'm sure I told you the distances before! But maybe it sounds diffferent in KMs. You certainly will be doing a tri next year, in fact you should already be tri-ing this year! Summer's not over yet.
Then you can think about joining the 2006 forum IM trip like the rest of us!

I think you mean "15h59m"
I'm planning a "stagger" rather than the traditional sprint finish

who will win? who knows?
we are all doing this for a personal challenge and because some big orange gorilla persuaded us to...............
Respect guys!!
So how long have you been training for this?
Pheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeew!
I didn't actually realise the swimming and cycling were such long distances too.
I feel 'ick and faint at the mere thought!
Oooooooooooooooooooooooh. Wish I was supporting now! (
Perhaps I won't be doing a Triathlon next year. Or perhaps it will only be a mini-tri!
Raise your tootsies if you're excited then! (Releases your hands to type)
