I read so much about Lochaber on one of these forums last year, but never did anything about it. Just put the long runs 'off' for a while. Its nearer to me, so should help with the money, AND i'll have a warm fleece to put on afterwards! Will keep you all posted! Is it London or bust for anyone else out there?
Just a thought, I do think sometimes! Is it possible that the all 1000 "Bequethed" places were drawn on the same day? And they cashed all those cheques on the same day even if you didn't get a place?
In which case, you won't know who has got a place out of all the "Bequethed" cheques. Does that make any sense? Hope it does?
I think it might be best to wait until December to see what arrives in the post.
I think the general consensus from previous years, and posts on this thread, is that all successful applications - bequeathed, non-bequeathed and the 1000 have their cheques cashed on the same day (28/10/2005) and unsuccessful bequeathers a few days later (2/11/2005). However, apparently, this is not an exact science and so I think you are right, in a way, that bequeathers will have to wait until December.
I would say save yourself all the worry about whether you are in or not next year, and do not bequeath. Then if your cheque is cashed you are in, if not you're not.
After reading all the comments I don't think I'm going to bequeath next year. I bequeated this year and my cheque was cashed on the 28th so I hope that I'm in but I guess I'll have to wait and see what arrives in the post!
I couldn't not bequeath as there is still that small chance of those extra 1000 places they offer the chance of. Just too tempting not too, but it is a real pain having to wait until December to find out.
Exactly Shades. Might as well improve the odds to the best possible. But it does look like my last chance is the hope of a club place this time round, but even that looks slim.
This is what I think needs to be revisited by the ROs of London marathon, the time it takes to let everyone know if they are officially in or not. By the time December comes and then some have to wait for club draws other marathons like Paris are full.
I am torn between throwing in my chance of the club draw to take a place at an alternative or to wait until after the draw and maybe not have so much choice!
Does put your plans on hold. Same with holidays, if I don't get in I would like to take a few weeks holiday, but if I do get in I want to concentrate on my training more. Can't book anything until I know if I can get in or not.
I think they should do it the other way round and allocate club places first and then put the rest into the ballot for non-club or unsuccessfull club runners. Seems fairer considering that technically (I know this doesn't apply to all) but most club runners are committed to their runnning in some way.
low profile - but aren't club places drawn for those that don't get in the ballot?
Did you bequeath and your cheque cashed on 2nd Nov? If so only very slight (or no) chance of a place. book your holiday and if you have got in you can defer.
I know I haven't got in, that's why I didn't bequeath because I wanted to know ASAP so I can make alternative arrangements.
Ooooo LP becareful there...u will start a row about club runners/non members now!!
AS Shades says, clubs usually have a draw type allocation for those that applied but didn't get in. But I guess there is no reason why this can't change, although FLM might not think this way!
Shades...not sure what else may fill up before December. Am considering Lochaber, is this unlikely to be full? Its only that Paris places went like hot cakes this year that I wondered if anything else would.
EP no and that's why I said I know it doesn't apply to all. Clubs aren't for all 'commited' runners. But the chances are that they probably tend to be more of a regular runner before and after the marathon than the guy who just enters for a bet with his mates or maybe because it is the 'in fad' in the office at the time.
I also think that they should review the system of how they allocate sometimes. I've applied for the last 2 years and not got a place, whereas my mate from work has applied twice and got in both times. I may have to wait until my fifth rejection before I get a place, meanwhile the lucky guy from work is a marathon veteran running his 6th marathon through the ballot. Surely there should be an auto ban just from the ballot places for say the next consectutive year to let some of us less lucky runners have more of a chance of getting in.
Yipppppeeeee !! Just got confirmation of my Gold bond place with Diabetes UK ! Actually don't know whether to be :-) or :-O. I suppose this means I won't be able to appear on TOTP with THE REJECTS. Good Luck to everyone else that's in and best wishes for those bequeathers who are still unsure.
(((lp))) - just find another marathon to do, there are lots of great events to do.
Dips - I think Lochaber reached it's limit last year but not until 4-6 weeks before race. I think he's increased his quota slightly and judging by the race numbers is about a quarter full already. It's hard to judge as events are filling more quickly these days and this forum encourages you to enter more events and at an earlier date! Lochaber was great last year
At Dublin marathon Expo I got chatting to a guy on the stand for the Padua Marathon in Italy - it sounds fab and am considering taking a group in 2007 (subject to a forumite doing a recce for me). 2006 race is same day as FLM
