Mick I was thinking of ya! Sorry I couldn't stick around after the marathon. Had to get back to Gloucester but it was nice to see you both before the event while it was quiet. Only managed a short goodbye after as I was holding up the traffic but I've always got time for you guys. I ran a good time 3hrs 21 but as you know I am an Ultra man and they are ran at a slower pace. But at the end of the day I enjoy running no matter how I do!
It was great to meet some of you: Mick&Phil, again and Mrs Mick, (really enjoyed chatting to you, and stretching my calves up against your car!!), the legendary Plodding Hippo (at last), Morticia (who now knows I am even more paranoid about pre-race toilet visits than she is.....and thank goodness she didn't bring the maraccas!!), Northern Exile, and Womble. I'm not sure quite what my dad who was supporting me, made of me hanging round wanting to chat to people I'd never met before :-)
Well done, all on your first marathons and PB's and runs in general.
I found the second lap fairly gruelling, especially that hill at mile 19 followed by four plus miles of Greenway, when my energy had disappeared and I was slowing down. So I was very pleased to knock 3:52 off my PB time at Cardiff which (with my limited experience), seemed a far easier course, and I came in at 3:35:59!! I'd forgotten quite how knackering marathons are compared to halves though. I got to the top of Rumour Hill the second time and found myself thinking that surely cross stitch or applique are a more sensible hobby for someone my age and gender!!! So.......it looks like Leicester on October 14th:-)
Good to see everyone. Congratulations on your 5 years of running together, Mick'n'Phil. I was pleased to beat last week's time by 15 minutes ) (And I had to push a certain someone around....)
Well done runner - Bean. Have you thought about Blackpool Marathon if there are spaces left. Kids will love it! (The Fair that is, not the running!) Blackpool is one of my favourites.
Just wanted to say it was nice to meet some of you (Womble, Cath, PH, George, Shades and Flying Ant).
Also many thanks to George who had to put up with me barging in to him for miles 8-11; the conversation was really helpful and made the miles fly by.
PB of 44 mins so happy with that. Blisters is right when he said 'may your training bring you what you deserve'; I've worked my ar$e off for 6 months. Was all worthwhile yesterday :-)
Seriously I thought it was great-don't know what you lot were complaining about. I had 'Bright Eyes' playing on a loop on my MP3 for most of it, thinking about all the fluffy bunnies hopping around the fields.....(not the death bits though)
3:58 for me so sub-4 for first time and 9 minutes off my PB so pleased with that.
Great to meet Mick and Phil, Shades, Peaceman and see the familiar faces of the lovely Ms Hippo and Long Legged Bird. Had a beer after with one of the 'fun runners' off the other thread which I enjoyed very much too!!!
Runner-Bean- I left you off the above list because I particularly wanted to say well done to you for such a fantastic PB!!! You were quite right in your choice of toilet by the way. I made it to the start with only a couple of minutes a go!! You must be so chuffed with your time. Thank you for being good company at breakfast and calming me down a bit, and of course for making me feel better about my toilet obsession!!
I posted a couple of weeks ago asking for advice after I'd been out for two weeks in March/April with injury. Just thought I'd let you know I made it round - tough, tough, tough after not having managed more than 16 miles in training, but got around in 4.40, and crossing the line for my first marathon was an incredible feeling. Here's to the next one (and the one after that...) and cutting big chunks off that time! Congrats to everyone who's been posting on here, and thanks to the two scousers I got chatting to on the Greenway first time around. If only you'd be doing the full marathon!
I'm with Morticia, I think the Greenway was the best bit, but just loved the whole course including rumor hill, but I guess a PB by 27 minutes and 34 seconds might make be a little biased at the mo
