Probably a bit late now. My mate was talking about buying some gear to run in though - I offered to lend him some for the day but he was talking about long term so hopefully he'll keep it up.
I'm encouraging them both to go out much slower than they normally run - part of the reason i am going over tonight - besides curiosity - is to try and get him to jog at about 10 minute mile pace for 5 or 6 miles - I've got a feeling they will both try and run at their normal pace otherwise and blow up. My partner is looking to finish in under 2.10 and I can see them all being in that sort of ballpark area.
Mind you the way my training has gone in the build up they'll probably beat me. I was originally going to try and crack 1.25 but now I'm not sure.
They are in the Wilmslow half this Sunday so no result until then. Didn't manage to get over to Notts in the end so haven't managed a training run to see how my mate is going on. I did get the following email from my brother :
"The running is going ok. Ran for 50 minutes last Sunday, went for shorter 4mile runs twice in the week and to the gym twice, where I did 20 mins aerobics each time. Had a bit of a blow out Saturday night so didn't run on the weekend. Planning a 7 miler again tonight as my last longer run. I won't be able to do 10 before the day as I'd hoped, but I think I'll be ok. I have my train ticket to Derby booked. Not in the new flat yet - it won't be for at least 6 weeks.
I am planning to run with Phil on the day so we can spur each other on. I have mostly only done a run a week. I plan to keep it up after Wilmslow, but I'll see how I feel before planning another half marathon. Bye - John "
FLM - I'm afraid that Phil's mum is a bit more serious than they first thought - I wont go into details but the doctors say it's treatable and she should make a full recovery.
He's number 1369 and is wearing dark blue vest and dark blue shorts. I've seen them both today and if they race it my money is on my brother - only because Phil's training has been mimimal the last few weeks. He knows about the thread so if anyone does see him - he's pretty recognisable at over 6'2 and very short hair - egg him on.
No result? Did they finish? Did they collapse? Did they enjoy the experience? Did anyone win any money? Did the dead mans shoes live up to expectations? who finished first? Who finished second? Will they do it again?

On a lighter note you could print off Laura's marathon training tips on FLM to "help" them along.

Looks like they'll dead-heat!
Please feel free to shout encouragement to him, or if not encouragement just shout at him.
Come on brother John !!! Or do you mean on the race course ?!
This is agonising ...
[don't forget to let us know how friend's mum's doing]
