It is a resurrected race and the start and finish locations are yet to be confirmed, so I'm not sure if even if someone has done this before it will be the same course as previously.
What I do know is that Nice Work are overseeing it and their races are always excellent. We have, as a family, probably entered their races almost hundred times and are yet to be disappointed.
I ran this one in the 1980s when it started & finished at the cricket ground, went into the city centre & out with a bit more variety to the same rural Chartham Downs area as always.
The last used route (May 2010) is a simplified, almost straight out & back route but with a loop for the outermost section. It started at the rugby ground & did not go into town.
Check out this web page from my Garmin site - not the actual event but a practice last year a week before Hastings. The route is exactly as for the last (2010) event.
okey cool well im not from canterbury im in Telford, but have been to Canterbury many times as have family in Herne bay, just wondering as i dont have many hills over this way like u do, what would be the best incline to have the running machine on at the gym?
We will shortly be able to confirm the route but I can tell you that it will incorporate the bulk of the course used when the race was last run in 2010. The main difference is the location of the start and finish which will now be at Merton Farm - close to the rugby club. The last time the rugby club was used it was accepted that the race had outgrown that venue, so a change was needed.
Paul if it's the same as previous years there is only one big hill. 10 mile ish point- not sure re treadmill incline - lets just say that it's most people walk up it! There are 2 long inclines About mile long also-
Merton Farm? of Beer Festival fame? i might know where that is! over the A2 bridge turn right ..hic!! nice to see its being run by professionals...Nice Work Martin Burke
D'oh! silly me...not such a bad idea then. Although it knocks my training plan out a bit as Monday is supposed to be 'rest' and Tuesday is the track...might do it though.
Is Canterbury and the surrounding area nice for a weekend away and does anyone have any tips on places to stay/visit? Wondering whether I can surprise er-indoors with a romantic trip and then surprise her further by saying I'm running this on the Monday
I like Canterbury very much. It is an historic walled city with lots of very old architecture. Very interesting to walk around. Oh and the Catherderal is a good place to visit. Also has a river.
Small city set in rolling hills.
Just what kind of surprise are you trying to give the misses though? You'll have to live with this you know.
I can confirm Canterbury is a very nice place and for runners there are masses of interesting routes esp. if you are handy with an Ordnance Survey map. Can't say much more about the half than what you can see from my Garmin link, but it's true miles 9-11 or so on the way back are testing if you aren't used to hills. Also on the way out miles 4-5 (the road from Petham to Waltham) are continuously uphill. But flat courses are boring and give rise to RSI, right? Treadmill: sorry, but I only run outside so I honestly don't know
Hi Martin and runners, does anyone know the confirmed route as my friends and i would like to do a trial run. As i come from canterbury i have the jest of the route but not too sure which road we run on after leaving merton farm-- help, cheers,x

Copy this to your browser address pane & I think the maps etc will now load on phones, iPads, etc without Flash as well as on computers.
Let me know if this works!
Tom
I' m betting the route will be as for 2010 assuming continued permission from Canterbury Rugby Club....
Tom
Glad this one is back on!

Will be my first half. Have run Nice Work events before and am really looking forward to taking part. Well and finishing of course! haha
Just signed up!
First half marathon (normally do 5-6milers), thought i'd have a go at this as i'm local (Herne Bay).
Big thanks to Tom for the course, will try to get out and have a go over the coming weeks.
Anybody got any tips from past experience?
Does anyone know if this race will be chipped?
Its a bank holiday monday from what I can see, so I guess they are trying to max out on some tourism!

Howfield manor is a nice country hotel on the right side of town for the race - about 2-3 miles away
