i really dont know , as i dont know the terrain on that part . i gather its hillier than the 2nd and 3rd sections that ive done over summer but thats fine. if its wet and slippy i guess it may be slower going...im aiming to finish before dark if that helps!! seeing as we dont have numbers yet to identify each other from at the start does anyone know what they are wearing so we can find each other???? i will wear 2xu leggings and a light blue Nathan backpack/vest , im small , blonde hair , probably bouncing around to keep warm !! lol
Haha!! I'll have to let you know closer to Friday, probably will be in my skins with a blue camelbak and a buff to keep my ears warm!!! I'll wear my new blue one! I am also blondish and short - I'll be the one biting my nails and looking nervous!!
I like your thinking Bear! Nice one.I will be doing all 3 days and may be somewhat quiet at the start. I have no idea what I will be wearing but having a large dose of OCD, I will be the one faffing in my bag up to the last minute.
hang on , isnt in the rules that we faff? check, double check, decide to change socks at the last minute then cant be arsed because it means undoing laces and your fingers are too cold by then i will be the one muttering this under my breath:
The ultra runners oath....one hand on RFP..
I,do SALAMONLY swear to finish my ultra,
let us not linger at the aid stations ,
lead us not into temptation to go under the 12m/m or into unmarked courses,
but deliver us from the evils of roads races and tarmac,
for shotbloks are the power and the trail is the glory for ever and ever....
I'll be wearing skins leggings - though I have to say I am thinking of treating myself to a pair of 2XU ones before the race. Any advice either way? I've had the skins since early '09 so maybe it's time for a new pair?!
Other than leggings, green buff and salomon pack...depending on the chill levels, it could be a few layers on the upper body! Salomon shoes. That's pretty descriptive, so come and say hi!!
Ito like your thinking BBH - I'm going to need a big bag for layers of clothes in the evening.
james i got my 2XUs about october last year and wore them all through winter and find them brilliant. they seem to keep chill winds off my thighs and stop me getting bum cramp in the cold lol....then i switched to 2XU shorts in april and wore those all over summer-DEF worth the money in my opinion.
do you like my made up ultra oath? cool innit?
james i know what you look like im sure i will find you somewhere, everyone else will have to stand in a huddle with a RW sign!
I've been following the thread and just dropping in to say Hello. Really looking forward to this and planning running the 3 days, if the ITB's hold up. The legs are just about recovered after the Snowdonia Marathon. I'll be on the one in the pink mankini
Yup, got the email. Is it me or does my huge sports bag not look big enough any more? Checking the weather forecast every day to get an idea how much of the kitchen sink to pack.
Lou you got me worried!! I just used their size chart, I don't actually need 2 sizes bigger do I?! Lol. Looks like it's warming up slightly but going to be generally grey and typically British!
Just a bit worried... Out of nowhere I am getting pain in my right knee when I place it under load i.e walk up/down stairs or squat. Went for a test run of 3 miles which hurt at first but faded a mile in. Too late for any physio now.... Gonna zip up my man suit and go for it on Friday. Just hope I have knees left to get up and do it again on Sat and Sunday. Not the best start for my first ultra.

Like the oath, but not sure I can be sworn in due to the going below 12m/m clause!
2XU leggings, blue Gore jacket and red Osprey pack.
Will probably be spending pre-race time going to the toilet a lot!
Yesterday was perfect on the Ridgweay, Today was not. Looking forward to it though.
Richard its ok, you will not be ousted from the sect if you go to 10m/m or 11m/m....i was just airing on side of caution with 12
cheers lou - 2xu leggings ordered!! so i'll be in them (as long as they fit!) on Friday morning.

james, i used their size chart too..on weight etc? so i have toddlers size
ah i can cope with grey, drizzly, British
Just thought I'd join in and say hello. Ran this in 2009, and had a few friends joining me for different days but going "solo" this year!
Looking forward to seeing the pink mankini!
Is it a 2XU compression mankini??
pen-y-jen - can you remember what the food was like? It seems a bit vague as to what is available.
You're not alone Julian. My right ITB keeps throbbing and my hamstring is twanging, but I'm sure we'll hobble through!
The low down on the food...
Breakfast: cereal, bananas and toast (This wasn't enough for me so I'm bringing malt loaf this year to supplement it).
Checkpoints: Brilliant! Energy gels, haribo. mincepies, sausage rolls, sandwiches, nuts etc
Dinner: Pasta and sauce and pudding. A few of us went for an afternoon "snack" at the chippy in Wantage on day 2 to keep us going until dinner at 6pm.
