When I finished the 50 I was covered head to toe in mud. Yet I noticed some of you 100 milers were not. What shoes were you wearing in those conditions? Some of those gullies were so slippy I could hardly stand in them.
I was also wearing inov8 's and did the 100 but to be honest after lap 5 it didnt matter what you were wearing it was so muddy especially round the lake and that bit running along that brook holding on to the azaleas ...
Plus I think it's a lot about how you run if you try to run naturally and not over think it or tense up when your running down hill saying that I did fall over a couple of times Andrew so changed tops so that maybe your answer ( first 50 in the planet x top )
Think I will do the 30 next year and enjoy it now I don't have to go back and finish the 100 ..
I'm the Irish idiot who wore yellow running shorts and a white T shirt the whole race cause I locked meself out of the car! Reckon with warmer night clothing (and another 9 hours or so) I could have finished! Like the look of w c hundred in March, but already entered Viking Way Ultra - probably muddy, but at least it'll be flat(ish)
My garage still looks shit with tents drying and generator, tables, water barrels everywhere.
David, I take your point about elitism on board. If I would have no job, or a job that would not make me be away from home most of the year, I happily stay longer. The problem is that some folks in the past simply walk the damn thing which goes against the nature of organising a race. I spent hundreds of hours on this every year. The race is just the final culmination of it all.
You are most welcome and I reckon you can make the cut-off. This year the conditions were the worst they have ever been...
Thanks Henk for your further welcome and your confidence in my ability! Also many thanks to you and the volunteers for a well organised race.
But a point I feel I must make is that in running or any sport for that matter there is always going to be a wide disparity in copetitors' abilities - some make it all look rediculously easy, while the rest of us have to struggle - we can only give our best on the day. Adopting the 'innocent must suffer with the guilty' approach doesn't work in my oppinion. While I can understand your frustration at watching people 'walk in' as they did last year, it was not they who were last to finish, it was yours truly!
I'll think about next year, but there are also many logistical problems in coming over - if I use public transport, which I had planned to do this year before a 2 hour flight delay ruled this out (missed my train connection) then I'm left with no shelter during the race. If I hire a car, I'm faced with the prospect of driving an unfamiliar car in an unfamiliar area having not slept for close to 40 hours!!! Another conundrum.
I would like join the praise and as someone who came in a hour and half before the cut off would like to thank henk , dick , james elson and all the others for giving up a whole weekend so a numpty like me could run .. Am in the middle of trying to organise my own race so am just seeing what a nightmare it is from the otherside ..
Cheap plug .. But anyone fancy running the downslink ( Guildford to shoreham ) next september drop me a line .. Jay
Hi , daz and pmo ... Going to run it over December a couple of times and get details , risk assessment done and apply for a permit in January provisional date 21 September .. Ladies,
I hope to have the results up before the end of November. Work pressures are currently taking much of my spare time.
Please be patient, it will happen, it's not an easy job.
Cheers,
Henk
No worries Henk
The way I look at it CC is one of those races that you either finished or you didn't finish. Time/position is pretty irrelevant
Nice one Henk. Cheers.

cheers, i will take a look at those.

Hi Dave, good to hear from you
Are you going back again next year ?
Henk extended a warm invitation for me to return next year - so I probably won't!!!
Results uploaded... finally
Sorry for the wait, it's been a manic few weeks.
My garage still looks shit with tents drying and generator, tables, water barrels everywhere.

Thanks Henk, the file is uploaded and can be accessed via typing the address, but the link is not on the website.
Was good to see my time even if dropped out after 50. Intend to come back next year and pray for sun.
Check under past results.... That's where I found it

Thanks Henk and everybody that helped you.
Great to see my time, I can't wait till next year where I'm aiming for a massive improvement.
Thanks Henk

Jay, do you have any further details, link?
Elite Ironman, Ultra Trail Runner
Sounds interesting. Just how far is that?
Mayve it would be more polite to move this to it's own thread? But I'd be interested
Thanks Henk.
Started running with a group who are much faster than I am, so fingers crossed for a much better result next year

Go on spen , give it a go , if only to experience Henks warm welcome ????
Are there still spaces left for the 100miler?
