after a visit to Blackpool yestaday for the day i decided i might give the marathon a go again where abouts is the football ground as i will be coming by train and staying 2 nights in Travelodge on seafront do not use the car as much now
Football CVlub is right at the end of the M55 Motorway, follow signs for central car parks, can't miss it. Blackpool North railway station is 25 minutes walk or a short taxi ride, approx £5/£6 in cost. There is a travel lodge 30 metres across the road from the football club
Is this one for beginners / returners or just the speedy runners? What is the route like? I haven't been to Blackpool since I was a kiddie so this one does appeal ...
Blackpool is open to all standards and we welcome beginners. An ideal rouite, flat along the promenade and North shore walkways, starting at Blackpool FC's iconis Bloomfield road Stadium with a grand stand finish inside the stadium, Marathon 2 laps, 1/2M 1 lap. take in all the sites of Europe's most visited seaside resort. Chip timing, water/aid stations frequently, expo Saturday & Sunday, two hotels on site, car parking for 5000 cars, 100 toilets on site inside the stadium.
The football club's 4* hotel bfchotel.com is £79 per room B & B, overlooks the fuinish area inside the ground, also Travel Lodge opposite the club £29.00 per room only book early fills very quickly, also Trael Lodge at the end of the M55 (Yeadon Way By pass road end of M55 motorway) very close to the football club also.
best time in a marathon is 3h43 however i have been getting syatlic in my leg so dropping my top race to spen 20 and going in the gym on the treadmill and bike to get me ready for it
Unfortunately no races lined up for me pre Blackpool - would ideally do Liverpool half, but family commitments at the weekend, particularly at the moment. Managing to get my long runs in, although I'm having to do them at 6am on Sunday - albeit with thoughts of finishing the marathon in my beloved Bloomfield Rd stadium!! 5 weeks on Sunday!!?
Looking forward to it. Did 2 16 milers a few weeks back, then 17.5 last weekend and another this Sunday. Trimpell 20 mile race to come in a couple of weeks.
woody is it still 2 laps and an Excuse to got to Harry Ramsdens and because i am now working part time for TC cleaning services at Tesco i have loads of extra time
Hi, I'm entered for the marathon, my first. Getting very excited now. Can anyone tell me how the grandstand viewing of the finish works....are tickets needed, a d any other tips for my band of supporters? Thanks
The run enters the stadium from behind the north stand runs down the back straight and finished directly in front of the jimmy Armfield south stand, right next to the registration, baggage, expo, changing/showers.
Wow - finishing in front of the (Sir) Jimmy Armfield stand, where I spent many an hour watching the Pool in the 1980's and 1990's - can't wait. It will be odd running in the ground without the risk of getting arrested!!
Nice on runningowl. Unfortunately I have not been able to fit in a race in the build up to the race (my last race was the Snowdonia marathon last October!). However training has gone well - just under 25 miles today (last long run before tape?) - 1st 12 ave 7mm, 2nd 12 ave 6.20. After fading badly at 22miles in last years race, I am hoping that, with the better training this year, I'll beat last years 2h50m - although the weather could, of course, play a part!!

ok Ron thanks a lot
I'm training for it too. Missed out on my 1st marathon (Liverpool) due to knee problem so looking forward to it very much.

It is to say -
Had very disrupted training with two bouts of illness
Ive currently got a bit of a cough
They have added an extra hill to the 2lap course
Surprised how comfortable 6:30 pace felt. Think hover around 6:50min mile pace up to 20miles then push on from there at Blackpool.
McMillan predicts 2:55.41
Runnersworld predicts 2:54.51
Fetcheveryone predicts 2:49.32
So 2:55.00 might be possible after all
