MAidstone Park Run was good - well worth the occasional trip. Nasty uphill finish but pretty flat apart from that and very scenic along the river. Been trying to get a place in the Lottery run in the olympic stadium all day and the website has crashed, bet i'll miss out when it finally comes back (if my boss reads this, i have been working in between attempting to get a place in that run...)
Has anybody else been following the debacle of the Great North Marathon? A field of 5,000 and only the winner ran the correct course as nobody thought to put a marshal at a critical junction a few hundred metres from the end and everybody else went the wrong way and ran just over 200 metres short of the full distance.
It does make you wonder though, doesn't it, that if a small club like ours can get it right how could the organisers of an event like that manage to mess it up in such big style. I wonder if any TRACcies were running it.
I did the 2nd one, ran it as a 30 minute pacer. Unfortunately I think somebody has been a bit too adventurous setting up Palm Bay and Pegwell Bay only a couple of weeks apart. The run I did at Palm Bay they had about 70 runners but the next week when Pegwell Bay was on it got over 80 but Palm Bay dropped back to 35 which is pretty dispiriting for the Director.
They should have given Palm Bay 3-6 months to bed down before starting Pegwell Bay, they are physically too close to each other. Whitstable has felt virtually no falling off at all now the others are there, we get about 140 every week now.
Cinders, don't worry about speed, a great many folk do it in about 30-40 mins, so as Sharon said, you would be fine. I enjoy the Park Runs because it is my only chance to run at "speed".
Does seem silly to have 2 runs in such close proximity. I am away this weekend too and next weekend will be marshalling the 24 hour so maybe after that will give Pegwell a try.
decided to Pegwell in the end, really enjoyed it! The route is a nice 2 laps around the reserve and ran a fast time (but think it is a bit shorter than 5K). Alex Kavanagh and Chris Brenchley had another epic battle and Chris just pipped Alex again. Michael Coleman flew round in 15:30 (!)
Cripes, either that is a short course or it is phenomenally fast. The course record for Whitstable is about 2 mins slower than that. When I ran Palm Bay it was .07k long which took about 30 secs at 6m km pace, so if it was a bit short that could give a really fast time.
i thinK Adie Waters said Pegwell Bay is 3.03 so a tad on the short side.. still a quick route though, i'd have hopefully just beaten 19:00 for the full distance and i've never managed that in Windy Whitstable
Just stumbled across this thread having been posting on RW forums for over a year !!
CB - i ran with my boys at Palm Bay when you paced it. I measured it at 3.20 the week before and the week you paced. I was confident it was long when i saw you came in at around 30:30 and it wasn't just my Garmin being out !!
Pegwell is a nice run, did the trial and the first week proper. Marshalled last week, will probably trot round this week with my boys again. Agree with TT, i also measured Pegwell slightly short at 3.04
Yes sadly - Ian has been trying to get everyone on the official one but people are very confused. Facebook Ian and he can point you in the direction of the proper one!
Yee hah, RW have allowed me back here. Apparently this is now a "thread" rather than a "bookmark". Such is progress. How is everybody doing? Is it just Sharon and Donna watching this now?
Well, yet again the folk who "update" a website have cocked it up grand style making this forum virtually unusable. I had the same problem with the two Yahoo Groups I run. Yahoo decided to "improve" the layout and now none of our members can find us. Even the TRAC Forum has not had a single post in about a month. I guess if you don't like Facebook nowadays you are definitely a "non-person", online you might as well not be here socially as there seems to be no venue now to interact with other people except through good old Facebook!

I have mine too

yay got a place in the end, can't wait to run around the olympic track!
Great stuff TT!
OH DEAR OH DEAR!

Just seen it. Not sure how many will be taking up their 25% discount for future events!
Has anyone done the Palm Bay parkrun yet?
not yet but hopefully this Saturday!
Did the first week - quite nice but I dont enjoy fast!
Morning JFDI
That's why I haven't been along yet, think it's a bit fast for me still.
Cinders I was nowhere near the back so I think you will be fine. Lots of brand new runners out - I just hate making myself run quick - can't talk

Thanks CB. Away for next 2 weekends but will try after that. I can always be back marker
That's a shame about the numbers.

Welcome Mace and glad you have found us. We have been in here for a couple of years and chew the fat about races in the area.
Should we just wind this up now do you think?
Does anyone chat here, or our site or on fb?
Depends on whether RW let me get on here - been very temperamental lately! I've lost my log in for our site but do go on the official TRAC page on FB
That puzzles me too JFDI, are there 2 TRAC pages on FB?
Yes sadly - Ian has been trying to get everyone on the official one but people are very confused. Facebook Ian and he can point you in the direction of the proper one!
Thanks, seems I have both!

Hi CB. Don't think RW have sorted the bookmark issue yet!
No still a pain in the bum to find my way back here!!!
Yup, in the end I just bookmarked it myself!
