when a bunch of pirates went in 2007 a lot stayed at the Youth Hostel in Klaggers but doing a quick check, that's booked up already - it seems room availability is already an issue as some over in Tripetalk are finding the same problems
if you don't mind camping, then Camping Worthersee is about 5mins walk from IM race HQ start/finih - big campsite, well equipped and very handy for the race.
Cheers FB - We're likely to want to pitch up somewhere secure, with familiar home comforts, not to mention a/c (given the temp in late June / early July). Unfortunately, IM is clearly the hotelier's Christmas come early as we're finding a week 3* accommodation quoted from 800€ per couple.
the campsite is secure enough frankly - well as much as any campsite can be - it's well surrounded by fencing and given it's location for IM will have plenty of people milling around.
I think when we were there in 2007 (we have a motorhome - maybe think of hiring one?? but that's not cheap either) there were mobile homes for rent but I can't see any on the website now.
I've just come back from Klag this year and we had a really nice 3* hotel about a mile from IM HQ called the Weidenhof http://www.weidenhof.at/ I paid £300 for five nights single room B&B. I couldn't recommend it highly enough. IM breakfast special early opening and requests. Bikes in rooms no problems. Rooms awesome. Free WiFi. It's on the bike course. Hopefully they have availability for 2014 still...
i've just come back form supporting duties at IM Austria. I had a whale of a time and it's just overwhelming to see people in all shapes and sizes start weeping with joy as they get to the finishline. Amazing experience and a fantastic well done to all those who took part.
Looks like special rates or minimum 5 night stay apply for the hotels close to the action. Have been in touch with several and settled for Pension Wachau as its walking distance. They still have rooms available. Haven't stayed there before so don't take this as an endorsement, my criteria were proximity and availability!
Pugs it appears they have had lots of enquiries so I wouldn't leave it too late. But in the end we had a choice of three places including the YH. We went for the one closest to the race venue in the end.

No need for an extended opening for me PRW . Daft laddy that I am I had a confirmation by 11:05. Sober!
Just need to find my bike. And a pool. Got a year to find them though!
Right, so I have e-mails out to the half dozen hotels within a mile of the start / finish line. I expect to be travelling in a party of up to eight.
We would ideally like to end up in an apartment / chalet (or two) but trawling the usual websites, supply near where we need to be, seem scant.
Can anyone with past experience offer any guidance?

It may be time to invest in a tent...

FB - I'll check it out - thanks.
IMA just closed registration, 17 hours after going on sale.
Impressive stuff, just not the 17 MINUTES we'd be wound up to believe!
Robbie, sorry I have to ask, what is proven about you?
A lot of things, many I've sought injunctions against before they made it into the media. One that I failed to stop was my ability to bullsh*t.
Factually speaking, it was an automated username created a decade or so ago when my real name wasn't available as a login. It just stuck.
Although in my defence, it has been proven I can cover 140.6 miles over land and sea, under my own steam, in less than 17 hours. Twice.
Thank you for humouring me. I've been dying to ask for ages.
this was posted over in Tripetalk re: accomodation
"Try the Tiscover website. I did a very quick search....

It's a pain, but you need to get in there as quickly as possible and book something, otherwise you'll end-up miles away or paying a fortune. "
We're looking at accommodation at the mo. A lot of it is showing as sold out already. Yikes

It appears that a lot of hotels (and the Youth Hostel) are deliberately showing as sold out so they can sort out the enquiries by phone/email first.
Email enquiries have proved fruitful.
And yes Trogs you were right
Trogs, I assume you are having this printed and mounted on the wall in full view
She's wearing it on her forehead Raf

Yes ... Winsford IM (although you may have to skimp on the 5* requirement).
I'm planning this in 2015. Wifes permission pending that is.
Accomodation booked, ferry booked, training started.
I may be getting a little excited.
Yay Pugsley We've been unofficially training for a couple of months. Official training starts 1st Dec I think...
I am, of course doing, unofficial training too!
No need to go official too early!
I will be able to ride a bike properly by June!
