I looked at various events that I considered as my target A race for 2014, preferably with IM brand. The dates just clashed with the kids' exams. I actually rather fancy the Tenby one. It counts as local for me. Better start saving up now, hadn't I?
Training up the local hills sounds like a good idea too.
Entry to Ironman WALES 2014, to take place on Sunday 14th September, will open to pre registered athletes next Wednesday 11th September at midday, with general entries opening on Friday 12th September also at midday. The event date has been confirmed as Sunday 14th September 2014.
I've decided this is for me...In outlaw already, should leave a decent taper between
I managed it this year but outlaw was earlier this year..........that said i was in a better place to race 4 weeks ago than i was this weekend..........its well worth it if you can embrace hills

TSA - so much to say. I will e-mail you re specfics but not had time yet but for now, suffice to say I would highly recommend it. Although I wouldn't want to do it again, if you see what I mean.
Good things: The training matches - both are hilly courses obviously but the hills are different. That said, it's hard to replicate Lanza in the UK but, essentially if you ride hills all winter and then come back from Lanza and ride them all over again after your recovery you're onto a good thing.
I think it represents a new challenge. We know we can do IM, we know we can do hard IM. (Some of us, like Seren, can boast a double but I can't!) Doing two toughies in one year gives a new spin on it.
They are both excellent races, well organised etc. Like all M dot events, I think you get your money's worth.
They are well spaced. For me, I think Outlaw and Wales would be a bit too close together. Having a start season and an end season race works reasonably well in terms of recovery between the two but does lead to the one and only downside that I found.
Bad thingsFor me, I felt like I spent a very long time training. I trained early for Lanza through fear and all through the winter. Then I trained all through summer again. Yes, we like training but I feel like I neglected other aspects of my life. I had less time for my friends and to do 'stuff' eg my house desperately needs a lick of paint. I feel like I've been training non stop since last November and I'm looking forward to a few days off now. I wouldn't want to race two in a season again.
Ultimately, I did this through a conversation with Slag and another with Meldy. There had been some (general forum based) discussion over which was hardest and I fancied giving it a go in the same season to find out. Slag and I also decided to have a bit of a smack down over the two races and the game was on. I know which I think is hardest now. Ironically Pingu and I were chatting briefly (I'd stopped for a pee on lap 2!) and she's done both but disagrees with me so it's all subjective.
In conclusion, I'd say go for it. It's definitely a new and different challenge and that's why we play this game.
I don't think so. They're completely different events. Go to the Wales website and see if you can still pre-register. It won't fill in 48hrs though so you should be fine without
Just had an email from Ironman Wales confirming that if you have pre registered then entries open tomorrow and then the remaining places go on sale to the public on Friday.
funny about which is harder.i think it might be a very personal thing as a number on tritalk think that wales is the harder.......depends on what the day brings and your own personal preferences.....
I probably won't ever try Lanza as I don't like heat.but you never know

Thats the plan, embrace the hills!! I'm thinking of training for Wales and then Outlaw will just be part of that training. I'm having Wales as my first branded IM abroad

Can someone let me know if the pre-registration email I received for IM UK will be okay to register for IM Wales?
I don't seem to have received on for IM Wales - sorry but I am new to this
I've only seen one mention that IM Wales 2014 is opening this week, is there an official announcement anywhere?
I don't think so. They're completely different events. Go to the Wales website and see if you can still pre-register. It won't fill in 48hrs though so you should be fine without
I heard it from Seren - that's 'official' enough for me!
Just had an email from Ironman Wales confirming that if you have pre registered then entries open tomorrow and then the remaining places go on sale to the public on Friday.
Right ... I must have forgotten to pre-register, hopefully it won't sell out in 2 days.
