I'm going to try TDs 'Pee in a bottle under your jogging poncho' plan!

Sorry for a re-post but I had a question a couple of pages back I'm still wrestling with mid taper madness...

Is my UK Photocard Driving License OK as ID to pick up my bib? Would rather leave my passport safe at the hotel.

Also, according to the appstore (Apple) the Official App is available in the US at the moment but not the UK. I assume it will be rolled out at some point in the next 24-48 hours.

Matty - I would think your drivers license would be ok but I've never done it myself.

Take your passport Matty - no point leaving anything to chance...

Matty - depends when you're going to the expo.  If they don't accept your driving license will you have time to go back and get passport?  It should be fine...but have a back-up to return with passport.

Matt - I would also think that a UK driving license is ok, but I am taking my passport to be on the safe side.

That piss-pot has a 'female attachment' - maybe it just has a poncho attached?!  My interest in making a swift buck is quite outweighed by the revulsion of emptying out other people's urine, so I think i'll leave this little money-making venture to someone else!

Well last night I had a long phone call with my brother-in-law, who is also doing his first marathon at Paris. We've done one run together, which was our longest SLR, and now he has said he'll run with me in Paris! I secretly think that he is just worried that he'll go out too fast and as a one-paced pony, I will do him good, but really he is much quicker than me and he is sacrificing a good time just to keep me company, which is lovely! This is completely against everything my husband believes in, he'd leave me in a heartbeat, so I'm lucky to be running with the right brother, haha! image

I will encourage my companion to push on in the last few miles but he is certain he'll boink, I think he needs to suck it up and do the family proud! image

Out of interest, will anyone be running with headphones? I always run listening to an audiobook, I know there will be places with a lot of crowd but I suppose there will be some quiet places too?

without wanting to sound too much like a ludite, what's the App for?

Curse you PC and your team of jesters!  I was in a total panic there - you completely had me. I don't know whether to be angry or relieved! image

If it wasn't for Orbutt I'd still have been trawling the web for the new route!

Emmy - hope that toe sorts itself out!

Matty - I'm with the others, take the passport. If you're worried about pickpockets keep it in a front trouser pocket or inside jacket pocket if you have one.

Thanks for the info on the app - hope they get it out in time!

Matty - take a photocopy of your passport along with your driving license.  No luck with the Andriod App either.

Jo - the app is mainly used for getting runners times, which is good for stalkers but no so much runners until after the race.

Theres generally other things in there like tips, newsfeed and route map too

Breakfast runners of the world unite.

For those who have entered the breakfast run on Saturday let me know and I'll add you to the list. Remember to download you breakfast run convocation from the ASO website.

    Runners:

    Kaz
    Kaz Jr
    KeyserSuze
    HaleyHamsetr
    Eggy

I suggest meeting up at the top of Ave Foch at 8:40am. The run starts at 9am. That gives us plenty of time to wander down to the start and run together.

I agree Matty, with Simon Mac and everyone else - take your passport. Zip it up nice and snug and it'll be fine.

    Naughty April Foolers!

My sinus is still being a pain. Literally. It's all on the right hand side and is making me a bit miserable, but I did go for a four miler nice and easy yesterday and it was fine. Hopefully some maximum grade Sudafed will ease it before the weekend.

Speaking of, I woke up this morning thinking it was Saturday! Not even close, hehe.

Good luck to all in the run up - we'll get there!

    Thanks Orbutt

It's chilly up north today and the office heating is broken, but only a day and a half to go!

Had a dreadful night pain wise, was that bad I got up at 4 this morning as I could not lie on my hip any longer. Strangely enough two tramadol and a lot of deep heat has helped this morning although I'm feeling giddy. It's looking bleak for me at the moment but I'm forever an optomist and I'll see how it goes on Saturday even if I have to walk a lot of it. Hope you are feeling better Emmy and the toe is heeling, and thanks to all who have shown concern, it's not all over just yet image

Oh Steve, that does sound rubbish.Tramadol is really quite strong stuff; plenty of people vomit and hallucinate whilst taking it. I would suggest that if you still need it by Saturday there is no way you should be running a marathon the next day. Don't let marathon insanity get in the way of good judgement. Gutting to miss out on the race when you've trained and looked forward to it - but London will be there waiting just one week later. (Another thing about Tramadol is that it will bung you up something dreadful image)

Hope that you sleep better tonight.

If I haven't you played a long then write your Gold Silver and Bronze times on the back of 10€ and give it to me in Corcorans.

Good luck to one and all.  Steve Ayling, you're still on target, good luck.

Honestly? No. its too crowded and I dont really remember any quiet sections last year (even the underpasses were noisy!). I also think that it messes with your ability to hear other runners and be respectful of anyone trying to pass you. Music/books are great for being on your own but have no place in a race with 40,000 other people *gets off soapbox*

Great idea for your BIL to join you!

Please take care of yourself Mister. Benign is right - think reasonably!

Good luck in Paris everyone!   Will miss being there - have a total blast, run well and most importantly, look around you when you run. You're in Paris image

Steve I am sorry to hear you are in so much pain, I really hope it eases soon but the others are right, make sure you make the right choice come Sunday. Also Emmy I hope your toe is OK.  I'm finding the idea of running this distance formidable enough without having a 'poorly' to contend with.

My friend who was originally going to run this race and got very ill at Christmas has decided to run the first 17 miles and then opt out.  Is this possible? She is concerned about trying to get off the course when it's all barricaded in.  She said that 17 miles should end up back in the centre of Paris and near her hotel. Any views?

Also she and her husband won't get into Paris till 5pm on the Sat and she was worried about getting to the expo in time if there was any delays.  I've got copies of their convocations, med certs and also I have their driving licences and I thought I might try and pick theirs up with mine.  Should I ask them for copies of their passports too?  Anyone else done this? I thought it might de-stress them if they knew I already had them even if they can get to the expo in time.

Mrs DefenderKen you sound like me, I started running 2.5 years ago and I've had a little trouble with a tight calf/Achilles recently.  Hope you are feeling well.  It's quite a thing we are going to do isn't it?

Best of luck keeping well/in one piece everyone xxx

It's easy to pop off the course.   A really good place is actually just after the half way as there is a Metro stop right there.

The course is not barricaded - the spectators are just on the side of the road, and will from time to time cross the road right in front of you.

Oh thanks, I'll let her know.  She ought to be better than me in crowds, she's done the Great North Run which is slightly bigger I think. 54,000? It's going to be weird, I mostly seem to be on my own when I run but no chance this time!

Just a quick line to wish everyone all the very best for Sunday. Hope all the last minute injury problems clear themselves up and you have a great weekend.

I'm usually the one who is wheeled out on here with a cautionary note and if someone's already made the point I apologise. Paris is probably no worse than any other European city for pickpockets - I've done Barcelona this year and the same problem applies. I had my wallet taken from the front pocket of my jeans on the Metro in 2011 literally half an hour after arriving in Paris. I know other people on here have had similar problems. You just need to be vigilant at all times.

Anyway, I'm sure you'll have a ball. Maybe see you in 2015!

Are there toilets along the route? (probly scary ones but. . .) I dont envisage needing to go along the way but you never know image
cant find any info on the website.

The ONLY barricaded in areas are the start pens and maybe the last 200m or so Leggy. Marathons are very easy to quit. Harder to finish them though

Yes there are... but I choose a lovely bush most of the time.
