Oh Jo I just saw you on the tracker and wondered if that had happened I'm so sorry. The Kayeman was saying there's a lot of seasick folk, currently about 40 bikes in T1 and according to Ref about 40 pulled out of water. Pants.
Joddly I feel your pain completely. I missed the 1st lap swim cut off by literally seconds. My garmin said 1hr 15 but the volunteer told me I had to stop. To say I'm devastated is an understatement. My life has centred around my training for what seems like forever and the time I have committed has put a strain on my relationship and to not have achieved my goal, not even to have made it to the bike, is tearing me apart right now. The swim was always going to be tough for me, but I thought I would just be able to get through. The sea was just too much for me today tho and I swam breaststroke most of the way just to stop myself from swallowing half the sea! I'm not sure if I will be able to come back as my hubby would probably divorce me!! Keep your head up though, there are about 40-50 bikes in transition so we're not alone.
Thank you so much for all these kind words. Everyone is being so lovely, despite the fact that I basically allowed myself to talk myself out of the second lap.
Thommo, I do feel really sorry for you - at least you gave it everything. It is hard to know what to do next, as this new demon is going to have to be conquered.
After a bracing walk on the beach this morning, we have been out there cheering on the bike route, plenty of Pirate action including Funkin looking rather quick.
Looks like something is screwy with the tracker lots of 8k run splits:

Got stopped on the bike at Narbeth , missed the 16.30 cut off there . Very tough day , that swim was something else. Thanks to all the pirates that arrrr'd at my kids in saundersfoot . They had a great day supporting .
thommo , joddly .. gutted to see your posts . Looks like the swim took a lot of casualties. One american lady on the sweeper bus with me reckoned that the swim today was touhger than the alcatraz swim !
joddly - I understand a bit - lost my nose clip in the first metre on the Vit and spent the next 200 feeling like I was drowning as water washed up my nose - I actually started to head for the kayaks twice, but there were too many swimmers in the way, and it was easier to keep going. I had to have serious words with myself, and only just decided to carry on.
not having much target makes it very easy to not HTFU....
sounds like you are gonna go back next year and smack it? or just try to swim in big seas?
i will definitely write more, but for now, let me just say that i am gutted for you guys who couldn't finish however, i am sure you will be back, stronger than ever, you are pirates!
Joddly - I'm sorry that things didn't work out for you on the day. On the plus side I now know you can scream and shout as loud as Seren and seeing you a few times on the run to hear your (fishwife) calls was so appreciated.
OC, there is a difference between ignored and taken into consideration. Big thanks all the pirate support today you were Oarsum. Race report to follow when I have a better keyboard than this phone other wise it will be littered with fat fingered typos.
That was one tough day in the office. The course just doesn't let up, and even in good weather it's still hard. Three finishes now. 13.**, 15.** and now a 14.**. Chuffed
((((((hugs))))))) to the folks that had problems. Been there and it feel's sh*t regardless of what everyone else say's to you not for what it might be worth falure isn't not fineshing it's not having the courage to put yourself in a sinuation where you might DNF. Keep the faith and see you lot down the pub some time soon.
That event is just so awsome .was so jealous of those doing it.,...........I am so knackered from supporting though
hands hurting from clapping and throat sore from shouting.........
managed to miss a number on the list as i didn't write it down and they were not in pirate kit...but i was shouting on everyone so i hope I didn't miss you....
loved running out to wisemans after the swim..........great to see that the hill caused all the fast riders pain.........so not just me..couldn't believe how many walked on the first lap up there.even some of those passing through in the front third of the race.......
well done all who got the medal and sorry to those who didn't.... been there and its gutting......they were strict with the 10 and a half hour bike cutoff.......4 women arrived within a minute of it and had their chips removed......they seemed to be arguing for a while.......whilst i was gutted for them...I was kinda pleased that they were strict...
Well done those of you that raced this weekend, regardless of where you fnished or not. As Cake says, just putting yourself on the start line deserves respect!
Looking forward to the race reports and understanding a bit more of what I've let myself in for in 2015! Those silly enough to have another crack, I'll see you there hopefully.
I'll write up a race report later this week, but first big respect to anyone who even got in the water yesterday, that wasn't swimming, that was surviving. Feel for you joddly, and Thommo. Not the only ones by all accounts but that's little consolation.
At the other end of the 'feeling great' spectrum, Funkin must be very happy with that.
Slim still moving forwards @ the 18.8 split, good stuff mate
