Well, today was the perfect day for cycling. The gentlest of gentle breezes, pleasantly warm, no rain, and a whole 5 hours all to myself. Had the bike serviced yesterday, and my new bike computer had arrived in the post. Perfect. I managed a mile and a half. Had to bin it due to a technical issue, which I'm not getting into here since I don't want to be banned for using unladylike language. Have re-scheduled for Saturday. Forecast is 25mph winds with 50mph gusts. You've gotta laugh.
Bikes are troublesome f***ers, you probably looked at it in the wrong way and upset it, or is that just mine. Having a major non wetsuit swim panic, particularly as is far too cold to practice going skins at the moment. My colleagues in Vienna have been telling me the weather is terrible out there so I had slipped into neoprene clad complacency.
That website is probably showing a temperature measured close to the surface in a swimming area near the shore.
When they measure the temperature for the swim I believe it is taken at 3 points around the swim course and at a depth of 1 m. They then average the values to get the official temperature. So the official temperature should be cooler.
What's bothering me more than warm water is that it's dawned on me that I'll be riding on the wrong side of the road, and will have to take bottles with my right hand. Cue channelling Mrs Doyle getting down from the windowsill
Nursery - can't believe your bad luck with the bike hope this means that your luck will change for the race.
Lake swim last night with a mate just getting into tri, temperature was fine. Not liking the idea of a nonwetsuit swim, apart from no being a fan of being in deep open water without the buoyance it will add 10-15mins the time it will take me.
Nurse - what a bummer with the bike, hope all goes well this weekend. In Austria I'm going to have to stop to collect a bottle, I can't do the "grab in motion" lark, I'd rather stop and waste 30 seconds rather than risking falling off. Yes, I am a rubbish cyclist!
So I guess you lot are starting taper soon? I'm about to start the build phase. It's not too late, right? It'll be fine... First bike past 60 miles coming up tomorrow. eeeeeek!

It's a big lake and I suspect the IM folk know where the coolest spot is for taking the official water temperature for the race
Ooh! Bad luck Nursey

I will be out with a big bag of ice cubes the night before.
The website says the temps were taken around 4 or 5pm, after the lovely summer sun has been on the water all day.
