Quick question - any ideas as to how long a bottle of made-up Powerbar drink powder would keep in the fridge? And also gels in a bottle?

Nursey - I often mix up Powerbar drink the night before and never had a problem, have left sports drink in the car for 24hrs and still been ok.

Gels I don't think do so well, I find they don't taste great from a bottle by then end of a long ride/race even if I've only put them in a few hours before I start. I'm not sure if this is due to them being put in the bottle or just me being sick of the taste by then time I get to 6-7gels. Not sure that helps. Maybe other have different experiences.

A question for those of you who've been to Klaggers before (and/or have taken kids to races).
How easy is it likely to be to get back from Klaggers to Velden after the race?  I'd love the kids to see me finish, but I don't want them & hubby to be stuck there. I was hoping they'd be able to get a taxi, but might there be a long wait if it's busy? Although by the time I've finished, it'll just be the tumbleweed blowing through.
They'll be able to stay in Velden to see the bikes come through, then I thought they could come to Klaggers in the evening for the run finish.  I'm also hoping the kids (7 & 9) don't get bored waiting for me!

I may take you up on that if Barlos' snoring gets too much.  Or better still, you can have Barlos with you image

NR - 2 years ago I went to support to support my brother and took my daughter and niece, they were a bit older than your two (12 & 14) but surprisingly they weren't bored. On the run they sat on the grass in the park and read everyone's name and nationality on their bibs and cheered everyone on so it should work out ok image.

NR easy to get out of the area of the race onto the Motorway on the north side of the lake and down to Velden takes 27 minutes. There is a motorway junction right at the park where the finish is...

Emailed Nirvana ( if anyone else is using them) and they will be collecting my bike next weekend sometime -

We are working on the actual dates and time slots this week but we are looking at Friday 19th, Saturday 20th and Sunday 21st June 2015.

  • Options

Oh good call - I need to find out when they are collecting mine as it will be from work so the weekend won't do!!

  • Options

Quick change parade on my bikes - the Planet X Nanolite I've had for 6 months is going back to them (again) different issue this time as the front deraillier will not change from little ring to big ring. Has been at the LBS twice and fails each time I try to go long on the bike. Jacking up my old Decathlon Triban 5 to take instead now. Been gathering dust since I had the new one!! (the bike not me!)
Is it me or SRAM rival 22 gears?

Am I the only 7:20 er then? More room for my zimmer I supposeimage

22 degrees yesterday in the lake.

  • Options

Funny enough I am having issues with my PX shifting up at the front ... !

  • Options

Lost confidence with it so going back to the old bike for now. Will see if it is any better when they send it back - hopefully in time for Outlaw.

  • Options

I had the problem with my Blue - it was a nightmare in Regensburg - it was to do with internal cable runners fouling.

I'm hoping to switch to Di soon to avoid the problem again

  • Options

Nursey - my kids only 3 &5 were the fine when the came to watch at Challenge Henley. Once the run starts there lots going on, first pros racing and then the rest of us just trying to finish. Even better with 20 plus yellow and black pirate to shout aarrrghhh at.

  • Options

i built a blue with sram 22 for shuffles......  it works just fine, change on the front needs to be positive,  (ie give it a good yank) and all is good.

If its cable rub / tight bends in the gear cabe then I've tried SRAM slickwires, (coated inner / outer gear cables) - there are other alternatives out there too.  helps a lot

another week goes by, yay - I swam once last week image

Simulated a wetsuite swim by doing a 2k swim using 200s alt swim / pull bouy.

Now I hear its gonna be non wetsuite?  I am seriously under prepared.  Oh well, I'll get by on swim history image

  • Options

I did NOT just read that the lake temp is up to 23'C and it will NOT be a non-wetsuit race.  Who has jinxed this?  Is it you WW who always seems to take warm water with you wherever you go long?

  • Options

Nurse – there are six of us racing (three of whom have girlfriends in tow) all staying at Motel Checkin24 in Velden.  Three cars between us.  We’ll be shuttling back and forth between 12-17 hours into race day.  If you get stuck we can squeeze an extra return journey into the equation.

  • Options

there are also trains between Klangenfurt West and Velden 18:07 20:07 22:37 and 23:46 it takes about 17 minutes if that helps

Re: the water temperature. Quit worrying about it. Firstly because there's nothing you can do to change it either way, secondly because the race is still weeks away and it can change in either direction, and thirdly because you're allowed to wear wetsuits up to 28.8 degrees Celsius, you just wont be eligable for awards if the water is above 24.5 and you do so.
