I can't figure out if this is serious:

Run a marathon during July, send your money off, and get a medal for your "achievement" of averaging less than one mile a day.
Now I like a bit of bling but I think this is extracting the urine. Am I missing something?
Comments
Fuck off.
not missing anything as long as you don't sign up for it.
And also for cyclists:

Do people actually fall for this?
well, it is a business, and I can see how it might motivate some people, although 26 miles in a month isn't that much to need to motivate yourself for
Besides which, surely they can't actually be making a profit on this. I just don't believe there is an actual niche market for It.
Well, I am aware of 'virtual races' as a thing, but usually they are for charity and a bit less shit. So I can't imagine this one snapping up much of the already limited market share.
You missed the August unicorn run - a whopping 10 miles.
TBH it all looks a bit of a charity thing but even so only around 20% goes to charidee, the rest on race numbers, admin and medals.
Cougie makes a fair point though. If my club is anything to go by, some people live and die by their strava segment bests. I did suggest that that only includes those on strava, so it's hardly credible.
I personally don't see the point in these virtual races like this. All you're doing is just paying for the medal essentially.
You don't pay for Strava challenges though.
Fair enough I suppose, it's motivating, contributes to public good health, good for the sport and a bit for charity too.
Meerkat just looks the most blatantly cynical way of cashing in. Who all is just jealous they didn't think of it first? Making medals and posting them must cost less than a ??1 each. All the rest of the admin will be automated on the website.
I'm going to strike a blow against this kind of cynical marketing by running the marathon during July but not paying to enter. That'll teach them.
What planet are you living on? Have you posted a large letter recently.
Yeah, some people just like medals, I know plenty of runners who only enter races for that.
If the medals you get are better than most of the shitty generic ones that actual races supply, then why not?

Most races are overpriced garbage.
No I haven't posted a large letter recently how much is it? Let's say cost to the organisers is no more than £2.53 each. Still a nice tidy profit no doubt.
One of the main reasons I enter races is as an excuse for the training but I like getting a tshirt more than a medal. Wish they'd do running vests instead of tshirts though.
I still wouldn't enter a virtual race though. Not even if they were giving away tshirts and vests.
if you want a medal then why not make your own... a few felt tips and some wool.... and you are sorted....
OMG... In October I only have 31 days to complete a total of %k.... 3.1 miles....Anyone got a training programme so that I can achieve my goal......Its a bargain at £12
